Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Buffel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephan Kastner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stephan Kastner will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thomas Buffel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stephan Kastner!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kastner has managed to clinch.
Kastner stalling.

Kastner manages to break the clinch.
Buffel throws a head kick but Kastner moves out of range.

Buffel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Buffel tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Buffel in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Buffel is looking to take a break and control but Kastner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kastner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Buffel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kastner tries to buck Buffel off but Buffel is having none of it.
Buffel is looking to take a break and control but Kastner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Buffel lands a few punches from side control.
Buffel wants to stand but Kastner has his arm trapped.

Buffel decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kastner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kastner should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Kastner moves into range and clinches up with Buffel.
Kastner throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Buffel blocks it with crossed arms.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Buffel is trying to push Kastner away but Kastner has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Buffel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kastner drives through and clinches with Buffel against the cage.

Kastner manages to break the clinch.

Buffel gets tackled into the cage by Kastner. Kastner maintains the clinch.
Buffel is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kastner is defending well.
Buffel is looking to break free of the clinch but Kastner has double underhooks.

Kastner closes the distance and clinches.

Buffel is trying to push Kastner away but Kastner has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Buffel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Buffel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kastner.
Kastner stuffs the takedown attempt from Buffel. Buffel gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kastner is struggling to control the position.

Buffel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Stephan Kastner will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Buffel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kastner avoids it really well and circles away.
Kastner lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Kastner darts in and clinches Buffel up against the cage.

Kastner avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Buffel is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Buffel has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Kastner works to full guard.

Buffel has gone for a leg lock! Kastner slips out almost immediately though and dives into Buffel's guard.

Kastner tries to free his leg and advance position but Buffel is retaining full guard.
Buffel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kastner's guard.

Kastner controls Buffel momentarily but Buffel frees himself.

Buffel controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Buffel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kastner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Buffel is fighting to break Kastner's control of his arms but Kastner is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Buffel shoots in for a double leg but Kastner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kastner clinches with his opponent.
Kastner misses with a knee strike.
Kastner fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kastner's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Buffel will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kastner holds on and takes a little breather.
