PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kalongi Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Royce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Royce has chosen Los-Countdown as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kalongi Rose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jay Royce!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rose forces Royce back against the cage and clinches.
Rose definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Rose really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rose stops a takedown attempt from Royce.

Royce has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rose regains guard immediately.

Rose has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Royce is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Rose is trying to break the clinch but Royce has him pressed against the cage.
Royce with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Royce is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rose can't fight it off and eventually Royce manages to take the fight to the floor. Rose looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Royce keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rose's head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Royce drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Royce jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Royce sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rose's guard.

Royce is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Royce is working for a kimura but Rose is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Royce slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Rose has his feet on Royce's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Rose throws a combination. Royce tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Rose darts in looking for a takedown but Royce gets double underhooks and turns Rose into the cage.

Rose throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Rose wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Royce has him pressed against the cage.

Rose jumps guard and drags Royce to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Rose is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rose wants to lay and pray for a moment but Royce keeps working.

Royce with the active half guard here but Rose passes nicely into side control.

That was a close round but I would say that Kalongi Rose will probably get the nod.

Rose is pressed up against the cage. Royce has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rose down to the mat. Rose avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Royce is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jay Royce seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rose lands a nice hook to Royce's body. Royce takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Rose has one foot on Royce's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Rose dives in for a single leg takedown but Royce sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Rose goes for a double leg but Royce avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Royce continues to drive forward.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Royce.
Rose's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Rose duly obliges.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rose fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Royce sprawls well initially but Rose persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rose decides to stand and escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Rose not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Royce closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rose circles away.

Rose shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Royce kicks off Rose and gets to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Royce is trying to drag Rose to the mat but Rose just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Jay Royce comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rose has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
