And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Tobias Wall!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ron Honeybunn and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Owens misses with a wild combination.
Wall let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
We've been hearing reports that Owens has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Wall loads up on a big right hand but Owens slips the punch.
Owens attempts a counter takedown but Wall avoids it well and moves away.
Wall wants to clinch

and Owens counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Wall trying to control from the bottom.

Owens is looking for a kimura here.
Owens missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owens thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Wall felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wall controls Owens momentarily but Owens frees himself.
Wall lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Owens is looking for a triangle but Wall pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Owens is keeping the position for now.

Wall tries to free his leg and advance position but Owens is retaining full guard.
Wall is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Wall slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Owens is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wall's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wall's back!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Owens counters with a body kick.

enabling Wall to counter with a crisp jab.
Owens tries to bum rush Wall with a series of wild strikes but Wall uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Owens goes for a double leg but Wall avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Wall continues to drive forward.
Owens swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Wall throws a lazy uppercut
and Owens counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wall avoids the body shot from Owens.
Wall scores with a one two! Owens had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Owens fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wall to the ground. Owens is now in Wall's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Owens is fighting to break Wall's control of his arms but Wall is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Wall bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Owens's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Owens is on top in guard.

Wall looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Owens forces his way into half guard.
Wall works his way to full guard. Good work.
Wall pulls Owens in close to prevent any damage.
Let's hope that Wall has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Owens trying to control the position from guard on top but Wall is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wall pulls Owens in close to prevent any damage.
Owens in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Wall looking to hit a scissor sweep but Owens is one step ahead there.
Owens wants to control from the top but Wall keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wall lunges at Owens with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Owens's hand.
Wall misses with a straight left.
Owens loads up on a big right hand but Wall slips the punch.
Wall throws a right and a left that both miss.
Owens swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Owens throws a quick inside leg kick.
Owens lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wall circles away quickly and effectively.
Wall keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wall shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Owens as he avoids it easily.

Owens throws the left hand but Wall avoids the punch easily.
Wall misses with a double jab
and Owens counters with a nice low kick that buckles Wall's knee momentarily.
Tobias Wall seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wall misses with an uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sammy Owens will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Tobias Wall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wall lands with a straight right. Owens didn't see that one coming.
Wall throws the left hand but Owens avoids the punch easily.
Nice defenses there by Owens.
Wall bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Wall might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Owens throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Owens lands a slapping body shot.
Wall misses the shot to the body.
Wall has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Owens finds it's way round the side to connect with Wall's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owens takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Owens throws a head kick that misses.
It seemed like Wall was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Wall fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wall tests Owens's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and Wall counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Owens thinking.
Owens lands with a cross.

Wall rushes Owens and presses him up against the cage.
Wall misses with a body punch.
A head punch on the inside from Wall fails to land.
Owens misses with a hook to the ribs.
Wall misses with some punches.
Owens misses with a short punch on the inside.
Wall working aggressively here.

Owens tightens his grip and picks Wall up, before dumping him to the ground. Wall manages to land in guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wall holds on and takes a little breather.

Wall wants to sweep here but Owens controlling him for the moment.
Wall keeping moving, preventing Owens from controlling successfully.
Owens loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Tobias Wall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Wall throws an overhand right that lands on Owens's shoulder, as Owens tries to avoid the shot.
Wall stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Owens.

A jab from Wall misses.
Owens looks for a takedown but Wall sprawls well.
As Owens backs off Wall throws a huge counter combo but Owens manages to avoid it all.
Wall moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Owens plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

and Wall counters with a nice double leg into half guard.


Owens is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wall scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Oh Owens is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wall scores with a big shot! Owens's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Owens! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tobias Wall!
Tobias Wall is the new welterweight champion!
An intense looking Tobias Wall took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'I knew first hand I wasnt leabing here without the belt. Props to Owens he gave me a great fight. I'm finally champion and no one's taking this belt from me'.
