The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A slapping leg kick lands for Hopkins.
Hopkins thows a leg kick but Gomi checks it
and Gomi counters with a series of strikes. Hopkins will be more careful next time no doubt.
Sergio Hopkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hopkins is trying hard to land a takedown here. Gomi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Hopkins changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gomi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gomi is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gomi is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hopkins's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Hopkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gomi on the ground.
Gomi has hold of Hopkins's hands but Hopkins slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Gomi has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Hopkins. Oh but Gomi has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Hopkins goes limp - he's gone! Gomi jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
