The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shephard lands a glancing blow to the side of Nikolaevich's head.
A big left from Shephard misses.
Nikolaevich thows a left - swing and a miss!
Nikolaevich misses the jab.
A combination from Nikolaevich does no damage.
Nikolaevich clobbers Shephard with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Shephard takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Shephard throws a leg kick that misses.
Nikolaevich shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shephard defends it nicely.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Vasilko Nikolaevich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nikolaevich throws out a loose jab but Shephard uses good head movement to avoid it.
Nikolaevich tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shephard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nikolaevich somewhat.

and Nikolaevich takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Nikolaevich thuds a left hand into Shephard's body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A decent looking cross lands there for Shephard.
Nikolaevich takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Nikolaevich rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shephard moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nikolaevich is breathing heavily.
Shephard is looking to slow Nikolaevich down with leg kicks.
Nikolaevich throws a hook but Shephard avoids it easily.
Nikolaevich tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Nikolaevich looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Shephard connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Nikolaevich's hands.
Shephard tries to land a front kick but Nikolaevich steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Nikolaevich keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nikolaevich will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Nikolaevich takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

German Shephard dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Nikolaevich is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A little jabbing left from Shephard on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Shephard throws a quick inside leg kick.
Nikolaevich lands a body shot.
Nikolaevich misses with a few strikes there.
Shephard slaps away a takedown attempt from Nikolaevich, before circling back to the center of the mat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shephard's coach down at Black Hand Vegas was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Shephard's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Nikolaevich avoids the head kick by Shephard.
Shephard stuffs the takedown attempt from Nikolaevich. Nikolaevich gets slowly back to his feet.
Shephard doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
German Shephard seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Horrible takedown attempt by Nikolaevich or perhaps it was just good defense by Shephard, which made it look bad.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Shephard counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Nikolaevich!
Nikolaevich tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Shephard easily slips into full mount!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Shephard cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Nikolaevich is rocked!
Shephard lands a big elbow.
Oh Nikolaevich is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Shephard looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Nikolaevich covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
