PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sky Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seto Takiama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker's entrance music is Bad Mofo - Jai One ft. Charlie Blaze. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sky Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Seto Takiama!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Takiama is trying to defend but Walker finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Takiama looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Walker controlling the action here.
Walker working Takiama over with strikes.
Walker takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Takiama felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Walker connects with a nice short shot to Takiama's temple.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Walker seems to be working for a kimura but Takiama defends the submission attempt.
Walker throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Walker in particular looking to stall.
Walker scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Takiama is looking to control Walker's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Takiama avoid being mounted?
Walker is looking to take a break and control but Takiama is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Takiama regains full guard. Nicely done.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Walker has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Walker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Takiama works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Takiama moves away from the strike by Walker.
Walker misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Walker pushes Takiama up against the cage in a clinch.

Walker drags the fight down to the ground.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Walker working for a triangle but Takiama defends it easily.
Walker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Walker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Takiama is one step ahead there.

Takiama postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Walker is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Takiama, into his guard.

Walker stands up from Takiama's guard - Walker perhaps looking for a knockout.
Takiama shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Walker defends it nicely.
Walker feinted with a counter takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Walker tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Takiama defends well and Walker ends up having to push Takiama into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Takiama steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Walker.
Takiama keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Takiama appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Takiama enables Walker to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Takiama manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Walker chips away with some ground and pound.
Walker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Takiama is keeping the position for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Takiama working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Walker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Walker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sky Walker dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Walker gets a takedown into half guard.
Walker is nestled in close to Takiama, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Walker escapes and gets back to his feet.
Takiama is breathing heavily.

Walker fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Takiama to the ground. Walker is now in Takiama's guard.
Sky Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Walker is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Walker has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Takiama is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Takiama has a takedown stuffed.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Walker.
Sky Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walker tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walker swings for the body but Takiama moves out of range.
Takiama changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Takiama goes for a double leg but Walker avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Walker continues to drive forward.
Nice jab there from Walker.

Walker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Takiama napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Takiama explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Walker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Takiama circles away quickly and effectively.
Walker slaps away a takedown attempt from Takiama, before circling back to the center of the mat.
As Takiama tries to get set, Walker tries to push him back and clinch up but Takiama manages to avoid the attempt.
Sky Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seto Takiama.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Walker dives in and grabs Takiama's left leg, looking for a takedown. Takiama pushes down on Walker's head and hops out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Takiama.
Walker closes the distance and clinches up with Takiama, looking for a takedown. Walker pushes Takiama against the cage but Takiama circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Takiama gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Walker to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Takiama keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sky Walker dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Takiama tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Walker defends well and Takiama ends up having to push Walker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Walker closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Takiama takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Walker tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Walker tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Takiama takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Walker lands a decent elbow from side control.

Walker is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Takiama is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Takiama is not content to let Walker control the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Takiama can't do much from the bottom here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Takiama staying out of range there.

Walker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Walker is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Takiama not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Walker wants to control from the top but Takiama keeps moving.
Walker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Takiama can do to turn this around?

Takiama wants to break free but Walker has control.

Seto Takiama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Walker has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Takiama is trying to keep an underhook but Walker manages to get the takedown into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sky Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Walker has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
