PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chad Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dimon Boets (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Boets's choice of entrance music: Штиль. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 35 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dimon Boets!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boets throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.

Boets closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Boets lands in his opponent's guard.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Boets doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Boets manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smith has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Boets postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Boets from controlling successfully.

Boets got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Boets has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted.

Boets wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Boets loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Boets manages to get himself to full guard.

Boets looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boets swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith wants to control from the top but Boets keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there.

Boets has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.

Boets is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smith is working for a kimura but Boets is defending it quite comfortably.

Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Boets defends it well.
Boets has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
Boets has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at St Petersburg MMA Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Smith frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Smith is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Boets to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Boets shrugs it off.
Smith lands with some strikes.
Smith with a couple of short strikes.
Boets is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action.
Smith prevents Boets from getting the reversal.
Smith can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boets is looking to escape.

Boets is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Smith looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boets is looking to get to half guard.
Smith is landing with some decent strikes but Boets is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boets really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chad Smith dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Boets misses with a wild body shot.
Smith avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Boets can do to turn this around?
Boets throws a series of punches but Smith moves out of range.
Boets lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Boets slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Boets ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.
Boets swings for the body but Smith moves out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.
Boets is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Boets taking a bit of punishment here - Smith scoring with strikes.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smith landing a few strikes.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Boets is defending well.

Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Smith working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Boets on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The referee asks Smith politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Smith prefers to stall for the moment though.
Chad Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boets wants to control but Smith postures up.

Smith tries for a kimura but Boets is defending well.

Smith goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Boets rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Smith's guard! Nice work there by Boets!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Boets, who protects the arm well.
Boets struggling a bit here.
Smith tries to move into full mount but can't pass Boets's legs.

Boets is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chad Smith will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Smith is trying to control. Boets wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Boets dives in and scores a takedown into Smith's guard.

Smith pushes Boets off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Boets jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Smith rushes Boets and presses him up against the cage.
Boets wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Smith has him pressed against the cage.

Boets looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Boets can't break the clinch.

Smith pulls Boets into guard.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Boets trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Boets landing with the ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Boets's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Smith trying to keep a closed guard but Boets is proving a slippery customer.

Boets postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.
Boets throws a big right hand that misses.
Boets is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control.
Boets postures up and lands a big shot to Smith's brow.
Smith avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Boets throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Smith gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boets looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range.
Smith attempts a counter takedown but Boets avoids it well and moves away.
Boets moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Chad Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Smith.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chad Smith showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
