PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sasha Parlsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bishop comes to the cage accompanied by Eye OF the Tiger. Joseph Bishop has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joseph Bishop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sasha Parlsh!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bishop looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parlsh is trying to stand back up but Bishop is controlling him
Bishop trying to mount his opponent but Parlsh defends it.
Bishop is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bishop trying to pass the guard but Parlsh defending well.
Bishop looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Parlsh avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bishop.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Bishop looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Bishop throwing strikes from guard but Parlsh blocks nicely.
Bishop pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Parlsh is keeping the position for now.
Parlsh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bishop. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Parlsh has a closed guard, preventing Bishop from standing up.
Bishop really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bishop drops back, looking for a kneebar! Parlsh looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Parlsh looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Parlsh!

Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Bishop is not content to let Parlsh control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bishop tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Parlsh wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bishop on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bishop tries to get out of the position.
Parlsh throws a strike aimed at the side of Bishop's head but Bishop avoids it well.
Parlsh should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bishop gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Bishop desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Parlsh with the ground and pound but Bishop uses the opportunity to regain guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Parlsh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bishop swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Parlsh missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Bishop looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Parlsh tries to free his leg and advance position but Bishop is retaining full guard.
Bishop will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bishop keeping moving, preventing Parlsh from controlling successfully.

Bishop wants to sweep but no luck.

Parlsh swinging wildly here.
Joseph Bishop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Parlsh shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Bishop eats them both and turns towards Parlsh to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Bishop manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Parlsh on his heels. He'll look to pass Parlsh's guard now, I'm sure.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Bishop wants to stand but Parlsh has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Parlsh checks a leg kick.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Parlsh misses with an uppercut

and Bishop counters by clinching up.
Parlsh is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Bishop pulls guard effortlessly.
Bishop is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Parlsh can do to turn this around?
Bishop is adopting a defensive guard.
Bishop manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Parlsh manages to get himself to full guard.

Bishop wanted to stand there but Parlsh had control of the position.

Joseph Bishop overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Parlsh enables Bishop to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Parlsh manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Parlsh can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bishop controls the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Parlsh wants to sweep here but Bishop controlling him for the moment.

Bishop would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bishop thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Parlsh's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bishop closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Parlsh's guard.

Bishop engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Bishop drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bishop jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bishop wants to get up but he can't break Parlsh's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bishop's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Bishop prevents Parlsh from getting back to his feet.

Sasha Parlsh has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bishop throws a lazy head kick
and Parlsh counters with a two punch combo.
Joseph Bishop is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bishop moves into range and clinches up with Parlsh.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bishop, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
