PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ciaran Lacey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez has chosen head up high as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ciaran Lacey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anthony Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lacey is looking to clinch.
Lacey wants to clinch up but Sanchez keeps it at a distance.

Lacey has managed to clinch.
Sanchez tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Lacey's elbow.

Lacey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sanchez pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Lacey moves into range and clinches up with Sanchez.

Sanchez pulls Lacey into guard.
Sanchez is trying to keep Lacey in close.
Lacey tries to stand but Sanchez is controlling from the bottom.

Lacey stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Sanchez gets caught flat footed, as Lacey shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Lacey from controlling successfully.
Sanchez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lacey is one step ahead there.

Sanchez trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Lacey postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lacey wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.
Sanchez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lacey is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanchez controls Lacey momentarily but Lacey frees himself.
Lacey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt

and Lacey moves into the clinch.
Lacey is looking to break free of the clinch but Sanchez has double underhooks.
Lacey is trying to break the clinch but Sanchez has him pressed against the cage.
Lacey wants to break the clinch but can't.

Sanchez is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Lacey can't fight it off and eventually Sanchez manages to take the fight to the floor. Lacey looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sanchez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lacey is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sanchez is controlling him.
Lacey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sanchez manages to get himself to full guard.
Lacey is breathing heavily.
Lacey tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanchez is retaining full guard.
Sanchez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sanchez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lacey is one step ahead there.

Sanchez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sanchez is trying to keep Lacey in close.
Sanchez wants to sweep here but Lacey controlling him for the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sanchez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lacey moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Sanchez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Lacey misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Sanchez is trying to drag Lacey to the mat but Lacey just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Lacey works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Lacey trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanchez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sanchez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Lacey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lacey wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sanchez is on top in guard.

Lacey looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ciaran Lacey dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lacey looks to land a combination but Sanchez avoids it well.
Sanchez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lacey shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sanchez as he jumps to the side.
Sanchez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lacey shoots and misses

so Sanchez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sanchez postures up in Lacey's guard and throws a big left but Lacey blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sanchez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sanchez gets to his feet. Lacey looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Sanchez clinches up against the cage.

Sanchez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sanchez has managed to clinch.
Sanchez is trying to break the clinch but Lacey has him pressed against the cage.
Lacey stops a takedown attempt from Sanchez.

Lacey breaks the clinch.
Sanchez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ciaran Lacey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Sanchez.
Sanchez throws a solid leg kick but Lacey takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Sanchez.
Sanchez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lacey's waist but Lacey gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanchez off to one side.
Lacey tries to clinch
and Sanchez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lacey swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sanchez does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

and Sanchez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Sanchez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lacey does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Sanchez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lacey's head.
Lacey wants to get back to his feet.
Lacey has a hand on Sanchez's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Sanchez takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Lacey is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Lacey wants to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away.
Sanchez throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Lacey trying desperately to get to his feet.
Lacey really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Lacey is trying to reverse the position but instead Sanchez has taken his back - oops!
Sanchez tries to get the hooks in deep but Lacey pushed the leg off.
Lacey tries to roll but Sanchez sticks to his back.
Well, with Sanchez on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Lacey is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Anthony Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Lacey throws a sloppy head kick and Sanchez moves out of range easily.
Sanchez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sanchez.
Sanchez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Sanchez prevents Lacey from breaking the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lacey is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sanchez pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sanchez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Sanchez is pressed up against the cage. Lacey has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sanchez down to the mat. Sanchez avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Sanchez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sanchez thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Lacey wants to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away.
Sanchez throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Lacey because Sanchez loaded up on that one.
Lacey in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Sanchez trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Lacey tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Lacey is looking to get to half guard.
Sanchez in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sanchez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sanchez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Lacey is desperately trying to improve his position but Sanchez has a good base and remains in mount.

Lacey is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Sanchez locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Lacey is forced to tap!
