Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Roman Yakimyuk!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vimes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Yakimyuk.
Yakimyuk tries a quick counter leg kick but Vimes is wise to it.
Vimes has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Yakimyuk.
Vimes misses with a body shot
and Yakimyuk counters with a straight right hand.
Vimes misses with a looping right.
We've been informed that Yakimyuk has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Vimes swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Yakimyuk is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Vimes with a body shot.

Yakimyuk on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Samuel Vimes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Some bone on bone action there as Yakimyuk checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A little jabbing left from Yakimyuk on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
We've been hearing reports that Vimes has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Yakimyuk connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Both fighters circling a little - Yakimyuk finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Vimes takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Yakimyuk misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Yakimyuk steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Vimes. That one must have hurt.

Vimes looks to land a left hand but Yakimyuk moved out of range nicely.
Donk. Vimes catches Yakimyuk right on the button with a cross.
Yakimyuk throws a shot to the body.
Yakimyuk takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


It looks like Roman Yakimyuk has been cut.
Vimes stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Yakimyuk.

Vimes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Vimes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Yakimyuk.
Yakimyuk tries to free his leg and advance position but Vimes is retaining full guard.
Vimes keeping moving, preventing Yakimyuk from controlling successfully.
Yakimyuk working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Yakimyuk postures up in Vimes's guard and throws a big left but Vimes blocks it.
Yakimyuk stays in close to Vimes's body and controls the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Yakimyuk throwing strikes from guard but Vimes blocks nicely.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Yakimyuk uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Vimes.
Yakimyuk lands a nice shot that snaps Vimes's head back.

Yakimyuk shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vimes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Yakimyuk's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Yakimyuk's back!

Yakimyuk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Vimes is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Yakimyuk with him. Yakimyuk is trying to defend but Vimes has an arm under the chin now! Yakimyuk grimaces and is forced to tap out!
