Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jay Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Raddz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jon Raddz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Mendoza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Raddz!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Bruno Lombardi and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Raddz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Raddz throws a right and a left that Mendoza avoids nicely.
Raddz attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Raddz throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Mendoza swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Raddz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Raddz showed some decent athleticism there.
Raddz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendoza is rocked!
Raddz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mendoza is trying to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, if Raddz is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Raddz misses with a head shot. Mendoza uses the momentum to regain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Raddz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mendoza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Raddz prevents Mendoza from getting back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Raddz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mendoza is keeping the position for now.

Mendoza working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Raddz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Raddz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Raddz won't allow Mendoza to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Raddz looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Raddz closes the distance and clinches up with Mendoza, looking for a takedown. Raddz pushes Mendoza against the cage but Mendoza circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Raddz drives through and clinches with Mendoza against the cage.
Mendoza can't get the takedown.

Mendoza escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Mendoza jumps guard and drags Raddz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mendoza is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Raddz gets his way!
Raddz is working the ground and pound. Can Mendoza escape?
I would not like to be Mendoza right now.

Raddz is looking for the choke from the back position but Mendoza is controlling his hands well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mendoza misses with a double jab.
Raddz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mendoza manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
It looked like Mendoza was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Raddz ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Raddz takes the fight into the clinch.

Raddz works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Raddz stays in close to Mendoza's body and controls the position.
Raddz is continuing to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Raddz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mendoza is proving hard to escape from.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Raddz tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendoza is retaining full guard.
Raddz stops Mendoza from standing up.

Mendoza is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Raddz is aware though and is defending well.
Raddz stands and throws Mendoza's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mendoza is looking for a sweep.

Raddz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mendoza has escaped the position, nice work there.
Raddz tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mendoza is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Mendoza is not content to let Raddz control the position.
Raddz is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Raddz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mendoza's head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mendoza defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Raddz.
Mendoza is looking for a counter combo.
Raddz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mendoza's waist but Mendoza gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Raddz off to one side.
Mendoza appears to be looking for a big counter.

Raddz misses with a wild combination.
Raddz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jay Mendoza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Raddz.
Mendoza throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Raddz.
Raddz throws a lazy head kick
and Mendoza counters with a one-two to the body.
Raddz is breathing heavily.
Raddz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mendoza circles away.

Raddz has managed to clinch.
Raddz goes for a takedown attempt but Mendoza pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Mendoza misses with a series of wild punches.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Mendoza.

Raddz closes the distance and clinches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Raddz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mendoza throws a low kick, looking for Raddz's leg but Raddz calmly moves out of range.
Raddz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Raddz tries to clinch but Mendoza is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Raddz takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Raddz drives through and clinches with Mendoza against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jay Mendoza will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Raddz shoots in for a takedown but Mendoza shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Raddz swats away the attempt to clinch by Mendoza.
Mendoza sets himself, and Raddz steps forward looking for the clinch! Mendoza avoids it this time.
Mendoza swings for the body but Raddz moves out of range.
Raddz misses with a takedown
and Mendoza counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jon Raddz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Raddz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mendoza sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Raddz somewhat.
Jay Mendoza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Raddz.

and Mendoza counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Raddz dives in and grabs Mendoza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mendoza pushes down on Raddz's head and hops out.
Mendoza throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mendoza scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Mendoza is looking to wear down Raddz with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Raddz takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Mendoza rushes Raddz and presses him up against the cage.
Raddz misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mendoza.

Mendoza is trying to pull guard but Raddz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Raddz misses with a knee strike.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Raddz is trying to maintain a safe position but Mendoza gets an underhook and turns Raddz into the cage.
Mendoza is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Raddz prevents a takedown attempt there.

Raddz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mendoza uses from the top position.
Mendoza wants to control from the top but Raddz keeps moving.
Mendoza looking to sit in guard and control but Raddz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mendoza is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Raddz passes into half guard.
Raddz is just content to waste time from the top position. Mendoza takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Raddz pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Raddz dives in and grabs Mendoza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mendoza pushes down on Raddz's head and hops out.
Mendoza throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jay Mendoza showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mendoza has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
