PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez comes to the cage accompanied by Night Prowler -by- AC/DC. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricardo Ramirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akiyama Shinichi!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shinichi clinches.
Ramirez tries a body shot but Shinichi blocks it.
Shinichi is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ramirez is defending well.
The referee calls for Ramirez to work.

Ramirez has picked Shinichi up - he's going for a ride! Ramirez dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Shinichi on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Ramirez takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Shinichi wants to improve his position but Ramirez is controlling well.

Ramirez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ramirez misses with a head shot. Shinichi uses the momentum to regain guard.
Ramirez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Shinichi tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Shinichi has momentary wrist control but Ramirez slips an elbow through the middle.

Ramirez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shinichi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shinichi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ramirez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ramirez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Shinichi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ramirez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shinichi is just riding it out for now. Ramirez eventually gives up the hold.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ramirez connects with a nice short shot to Shinichi's temple.

Ramirez jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Ramirez lands with a good body shot.
Ramirez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shinichi was well out of range. Poor timing from Ramirez.

Shinichi with the counter takedown but Ramirez avoids it easily.
Shinichi's coach down at Heart Cave was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Shinichi's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Ricardo Ramirez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shinichi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ramirez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ramirez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shinichi can do to turn this around?
Ramirez cracks Shinichi with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Shinichi tries to pull guard but Ramirez won't allow it.
Ricardo Ramirez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akiyama Shinichi.

Shinichi is rocked!
Ramirez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Shinichi looks a forlorn figure.
Shinichi is still in real trouble! Can Ramirez finish him?
Oooooh, big shot lands for Ramirez! Shinichi is hurt baaadly! Ramirez is firing away with more strikes - Shinichi is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ricardo Ramirez!
Ricardo Ramirez gave a mention to Perkele! in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
