The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thorvaldson scores with a hook to the body. Pyy takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Pekka Pyy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pyy throws a sloppy body shot
and Thorvaldson counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Pyy thinking.
Thorvaldson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pyy.
Pyy lunges at Thorvaldson with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Thorvaldson's hand.
The fighters circling - Thorvaldson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Pyy swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Pyy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Thorvaldson has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Pyy closes the distance and clinches.

Thorvaldson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pyy controls the pace.

Thorvaldson has his foot on Pyy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pyy works his way back into a safe position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pyy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Pyy wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Thorvaldson's closed guard. He's half up but Thorvaldson has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Thorvaldson pivots and extends the arm, Pyy falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Thorvaldson! Well done that man!
