PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dominek Cruise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Woodhall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dominek Cruise!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Woodhall!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Ben Hemmingworth and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cruise moves into the clinch successfully.

Cruise manages to break the clinch.
Woodhall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cruise's waist but Cruise gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Woodhall off to one side.
Woodhall on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Cruise moves in looking to clinch but Woodhall pushes him off.
Woodhall shoots in for a takedown but Cruise shows good takedown defense.
Nice takedown defense from Cruise. No joy for Woodhall on that attempt.
Dominek Cruise has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Woodhall.

Cruise is looking to control Woodhall's arms but Woodhall gets an underhook and turns him. Now Cruise has his back to the cage.

Cruise is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Cruise wants to break the clinch but can't.

Cruise seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Woodhall moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Cruise tries to clinch up but Woodhall circles away and keeps his distance.

Cruise stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cruise wants it to stay on the feet.

Woodhall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cruise. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Woodhall tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cruise swivels and escapes.
Woodhall steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cruise.
Cruise doesn't manage to clinch there - Woodhall circles away.

and Woodhall counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Woodhall throws a sloppy head kick and Cruise moves out of range easily.
Cruise defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Woodhall.
Cruise tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Woodhall manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And Woodhall tries to counter it with a takedown but Cruise pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Woodhall lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Cruise is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Woodhall is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Cruise cracks Woodhall with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Woodhall is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Cruise tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Woodhall paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cruise cracks Woodhall with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Woodhall looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Cruise finish him?


Woodhall is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cruise fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Woodhall square on the jaw! Damn, Woodhall is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dominek Cruise!
