PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jere Spence (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Huang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Huang has chosen Click Click Boom as his entrance music. Charlie Huang will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jere Spence!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Charlie Huang!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Huang tries to clinch but Spence moves out of range.
Huang looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Spence gets caught flat footed, as Huang shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Spence is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Huang presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Spence is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Huang jumps guard and drags Spence to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Spence really is a fat lump.
Huang utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Spence slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Huang can do anything to dispel that myth.

Spence has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Huang can't keep his opponent in guard - Spence advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Spence content to control rather than advance.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Spence slips a nice elbow through Huang's hands, connecting with Huang's forehead.
Spence lands with a punch from half guard.
Spence controlling the action here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Spence keeps the fight on the outside.
Spence tries a head kick but it misses.
Spence is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Spence has Huang up against the cage in a clinch.

Huang drags the fight down to the ground.
Spence is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Spence lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Spence lands a couple of elbows.
Spence's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Spence scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Huang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Spence controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Spence with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Spence dives in and grabs Huang's left leg, looking for a takedown. Huang pushes down on Spence's head and hops out.

Huang gets a takedown into half guard.

Spence makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Huang fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Spence to the ground. Huang is now in Spence's guard.
Huang missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Spence trying to control the position here.
Huang with a flurry of punches that miss.
Spence pulls Huang in close to prevent any damage.
We've been informed that Huang has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Huang is breathing heavily.

Spence trying to strike off his back.
Spence managing to control the position.
Huang stops Spence from standing up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Spence looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Spence content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spence looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Huang with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Spence is controlling the pace.
Spence is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Huang can do to turn this around?

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Huang avoids the head kick by Spence.
And Huang tries to counter it with a takedown but Spence pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Spence throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Spence looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
No luck for Spence with that takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Huang shoots in and bounces Spence off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Huang wants to stand but Spence has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Spence pulls Huang in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Spence manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Huang manages to get himself to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jere Spence dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Spence has taken the fight to the clinch.

Spence turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Spence controls the position.
Huang taking punishment in the form of punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spence lands a few punches from side control.
The referee asks Spence politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Spence prefers to stall for the moment though.
Huang taking a bit of punishment here - Spence scoring with strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Huang misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Spence is working Huang over with some ground and pound from side control.
Huang takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Spence lands an elbow.

Huang is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Huang takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
A lull in the action here as Spence stalls from top position.
Spence's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Jere Spence overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Spence grinds an elbow into Huang's temple.

Spence in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Spence controls the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jere Spence is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Spence closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Spence turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Spence manages to end up in side control.
Spence scores with a couple of short elbows.
Spence prevents Huang from escaping the position.
Spence takes a little break here. Huang wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Spence cracks Huang with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Huang wants to control but Spence postures up.
Spence in side control, just content to control the action for now.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Spence.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Spence connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Huang some visible discomfort.
Charlie Huang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jere Spence is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Spence slows the pace down.

Jere Spence showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Spence has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
