PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maria Lester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Bianchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roberto Bianchi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maria Lester!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roberto Bianchi!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bianchi pushes Lester up against the cage in a clinch.
Lester really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lester wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Bianchi is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Lester can't fight it off and eventually Bianchi manages to take the fight to the floor. Lester looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lester seems keen to control Bianchi's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bianchi would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lester has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bianchi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Lester pulls Bianchi in close to his closed guard and prevents Bianchi from doing any damage or advancing position.
Bianchi wants to control from the top but Lester keeps moving.

Lester's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lester throws a head kick but Bianchi moves out of range.
Bianchi feints the counter takedown.

Lester scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Bianchi sneaks out the side door and pushes Lester away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Bianchi looks winded!

Bianchi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lester to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Bianchi looking for subs off his back but Lester has passed one foot through into half guard.

Lester lands strikes from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bianchi is looking to control Lester's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bianchi avoid being mounted?
Lester is nestled in close to Bianchi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Lester is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Bianchi is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Lester jumps into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lester looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Check out the look on Lester's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Lester thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lester tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lester has control of an arm but Bianchi manages to advance to Lester's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Roberto Bianchi will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Bianchi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bianchi works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Bianchi working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Lester is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bianchi throws a head kick but Lester moves out of range.

Bianchi manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lester on his heels. He'll look to pass Lester's guard now, I'm sure.
Lester is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Lester continues to stall.
Lester bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bianchi's guard.

Bianchi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lester postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Lester is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lester is in close to Bianchi's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Lester with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Lester scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Lester works over Bianchi with some ground and pound from guard.
Lester postures up and lands a big shot to Bianchi's brow.
Lester chips away with some ground and pound.
Lester is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Lester will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Lester stands and steps away. Bianchi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lester.
Lester fails to land the takedown.
Lester throws a head kick but Bianchi moves out of range.
Lester throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lester goes for a double leg but Bianchi avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bianchi continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maria Lester. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bianchi gets the takedown into side control.
Lester isn't going anywhere.
Lester is looking for a sweep.
Bianchi working away.
Lester sneaks back into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lester keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Roberto Bianchi will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Bianchi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lester is pulling down on Bianchi's head to control his posture.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lester throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bianchi gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Lester tries to break free but Bianchi pushes him back against the cage.

Bianchi manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lester's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Bianchi is wriggling around but Lester manages to pass to half guard.
Lester is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Bianchi is defending against the submission attempts here by Lester.
Lester takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lester lands strikes from half guard.

Lester is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bianchi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lester.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lester connects with a nice short shot to Bianchi's temple.
Maria Lester has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Roberto Bianchi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Lester lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Maria Lester.
I think Bianchi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
