The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Assistant - just one landing.
Assistant misses with a hook. Danky ducked under it nicely.

Assistant wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
My spies in The Beast inform me that Danky has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Assistant might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Assistant is looking to stand up but Danky isn't so interested in that idea.

Danky stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Assistant swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Assistant on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Assistant tries to get out of the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Danky looking to sit in guard and control but Assistant gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Danky seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Danky looking to hit a scissor sweep but Assistant is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Danky escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Assistant gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Assistant stays in close to Danky's body and controls the position.

Dom Danky dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Assistant throws a low kick but it's checked well by Danky.
Assistant misses with an uppercut. Danky saw that one coming.

and Danky counters with a nice double leg into side control. Assistant won't be happy with that.

Danky has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Danky throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Dom Danky has got the better of the ground game so far.
Danky lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Assistant down.

Assistant knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Danky on the ground.

Oh Assistant is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Danky wants to control the pace but Assistant is squirming around nicely.
Danky throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Assistant seems to have got his legs back now.
