We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Winkleoff fails with an attempt to clinch.
Krumins drops down looking for a counter takedown but Van Winkleoff sprawls and moves away.
Van Winkleoff paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Krumins avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Krumins is looking for a counter combo.
Krumins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Van Winkleoff pinned against the cage. Van Winkleoff gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Krumins shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Van Winkleoff is trying to defend but Krumins finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Van Winkleoff tries to kick Krumins off in order to stand up. Krumins Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Krumins tries to counter by clinching up but Van Winkleoff breaks away and moves out of range.

The fight stays on the outside here - Van Winkleoff looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Van Winkleoff can do anything to dispel that myth.

Krumins tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Van Winkleoff tries to buck Krumins off so he can stand up but Krumins has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Van Winkleoff falls backwards, slamming Krumins to the mat but Krumins holds on tight! Van Winkleoff is forced to tap and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kristaps Krumins!
A very excited looking Kristaps Krumins made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
