PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Baeddan MacAuliffe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alberto Barraza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MacAuliffe's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Notorious by Duran Duran. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Russell Pearce.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barraza moves into range and clinches up with MacAuliffe.
MacAuliffe drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Barraza lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Barraza manages to break the clinch.
Barraza misses with the combination.
No luck for MacAuliffe with that takedown attempt.
Barraza displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as MacAuliffe throws out the jab.
A nice side step and Barraza releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Barraza has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barraza just misses with a punch to the body.
MacAuliffe drops down looking for a counter takedown but Barraza sprawls and moves away.

MacAuliffe throws a big counter combination but Barraza scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

enabling Barraza to counter with a crisp jab.

MacAuliffe with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Barraza to score with a decent uppercut.
MacAuliffe throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Barraza makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
MacAuliffe darts in trying to clinch
and Barraza cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
MacAuliffe lands a head kick. Barraza smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Barraza's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Barraza duly obliges.

Barraza gets caught napping as MacAuliffe dives in and scores a takedown. Barraza manages to retain guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
MacAuliffe trying to control but Barraza is working from the bottom.

Barraza wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and MacAuliffe manages to pass to side control.
MacAuliffe looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
MacAuliffe prevents Barraza from standing back up.
MacAuliffe wants to control but Barraza is keeping him busy.
Barraza tries to kick MacAuliffe off but MacAuliffe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Barraza keeps the fight on the outside.
It seemed like Barraza was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Barraza looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Barraza closes the distance and clinches.
Barraza works on MacAuliffe's body with a couple of short punches.

Barraza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
MacAuliffe shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baeddan MacAuliffe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Barraza lands a jab-cross combination.

and Barraza counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Nice takedown defense from Barraza. No joy for MacAuliffe on that attempt.

Barraza has closed the distance and engaged MacAuliffe in a clinch.
Barraza stalls.
Barraza is trying to push MacAuliffe away but MacAuliffe has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

MacAuliffe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
MacAuliffe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Barraza as he avoids it easily.
Danga de danga de dang - Barraza scores with a four punch combination!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
MacAuliffe takes one to the side of the head.

and Barraza counters with a three punch combo that has MacAuliffe backing up. MacAuliffe nods at Barraza to acknowledge the strikes.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
MacAuliffe is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
MacAuliffe tries to work over Barraza's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alberto Barraza dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Barraza clinches up with MacAuliffe and pushes him back against the cage.
MacAuliffe can't find room to land a body shot as Barraza controls the action.
Barraza lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of MacAuliffe backwards.
Barraza prevents the takedown attempt.
Barraza tries to circle away but MacAuliffe has him pinned against the cage.

and Barraza counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
MacAuliffe takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Barraza dodges the punch combination from MacAuliffe.
Barraza lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Baeddan MacAuliffe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

MacAuliffe takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Barraza counters with a straight right hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Barraza throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
MacAuliffe misses with an elbow over the top.
MacAuliffe is working for takedown but Barraza is calmly controlling the position for now.
MacAuliffe is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Barraza to keep the fight standing.

Alberto Barraza seems to be getting the better of the standup.
MacAuliffe tries to bum rush Barraza with a series of wild strikes but Barraza uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
MacAuliffe takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Barraza cracks MacAuliffe with a right hand to the side of the head.

Barraza clinches up against the cage.
Barraza lands a body shot.
Barraza lands a right hand.
Barraza pushes MacAuliffe back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
MacAuliffe is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Barraza will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning MacAuliffe up against the cage.
Barraza's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Barraza has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Barraza stops a takedown attempt from MacAuliffe.
MacAuliffe drops down looking for an ankle pick but Barraza pulls his leg out and moves away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Barraza shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. MacAuliffe eats them both and turns towards Barraza to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Barraza scores with a three punch combo!
Oh MacAuliffe is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Barraza is working the combinations to good effect here.
MacAuliffe gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! MacAuliffe tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Barraza is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and MacAuliffe buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves MacAuliffe!! MacAuliffe is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Barraza throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
