PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sasuke Swan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Swan comes to the cage accompanied by Hello Ladies. Matt Ryan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sasuke Swan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ryan but Ryan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ryan tries to land a front kick but Swan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Swan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ryan steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Swan.

Ryan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Swan was covering up waiting for the punch and Ryan finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ryan stands up from Swan's guard - Ryan perhaps looking for a knockout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Swan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Ryan avoiding damage as Swan throws knees to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ryan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Swan goes for a double leg but Ryan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ryan continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sasuke Swan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ryan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Swan kicks Ryan off and gets back to his feet.
Ryan looks winded!

Ryan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Swan did well to prevent Ryan getting side control.

Swan has one foot on Ryan's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ryan has Swan up against the cage in a clinch.
Swan has had enough of the clinch but Ryan keeps him there for the moment.

Swan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ryan uses from the top position.
Ryan won't allow Swan to get back to his feet.

Swan wriggles free and stands up.
Ryan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Ryan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ryan wants it to stay on the feet.
Ryan raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Ryan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Swan.
Ryan misses with a few strikes there.

Swan clinches with his opponent.
Swan looking for a takedown.
Swan has had enough of the clinch but Ryan keeps him there for the moment.
Swan wants to take the fight to the mat but Ryan manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Ryan tightens his grip and picks Swan up, before dumping him to the ground. Swan manages to land in guard.
Ryan looking to sit in guard and control but Swan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Swan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan keeping full guard, as Swan tries to pass.
Swan stays in close to Ryan's body and controls the position.
Swan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Swan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ryan is keeping the position for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Swan gets to his feet. Ryan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ryan wants to clinch up but Swan keeps it at a distance.

Ryan shoots in and gets a takedown into Swan's guard.

Swan manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Ryan stuffs the takedown.
Swan shoots in looking for a takedown but Ryan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Swan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sasuke Swan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Swan throws a nice looking combination but Ryan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Ryan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Swan, pushing him back against the cage.

Swan pulls guard effortlessly.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Swan manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Ryan prevents the takedown attempt.

Ryan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ryan misses the shot to the body.
Swan went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Swan lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ryan backs up against the cage.
Ryan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Swan.
Swan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sasuke Swan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ryan moves in looking to clinch but Swan pushes him off.

Ryan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Swan is trying to drag Ryan to the mat but Ryan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Ryan tries to work over Swan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Ryan misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Swan.
Swan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ryan is defending well.

Swan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ryan has Swan pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ryan pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Swan tumbling to the mat - Ryan dives into Swan's guard.

Swan pushes Ryan off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Swan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ryan.
Swan shoots in but Ryan avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ryan throws a fast counter high kick but Swan manages to duck under it in time.

Ryan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Swan quickly recovers to half guard.

Swan manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Ryan keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Swan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ryan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Ryan stops a takedown attempt from Swan.

Ryan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Swan keeps the fight on the outside.
Ryan tries to clinch there but Swan circles away.
Swan tries to counter by clinching up but Ryan breaks away and moves out of range.

Ryan gets a double leg takedown into Swan's guard.

Swan uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Swan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Swan is looking for a takedown.
Swan is looking to break free of the clinch but Ryan has double underhooks.
Swan working hard to break the clinch.

Ryan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ryan tries to close the distance and clinch but Swan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ryan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Swan circles away quickly and effectively.
Swan blocks the body kick.
Swan drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ryan sprawls and moves away.
Swan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ryan as he avoids it easily.
Matt Ryan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Ryan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Swan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ryan tries to avoid it but Swan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ryan to the ground. Ryan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ryan rushes Swan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sasuke Swan will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Ryan stuffs the takedown.
Ryan tries to clinch there but Swan circles away.
Ryan scores with a head kick. Swan tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Swan rushes Ryan and presses him up against the cage.
Swan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ryan after a bit of a struggle.

Ryan has clasped his hands together around Swan's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Swan sneaks out the side door and pushes Ryan away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Swan scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Swan shoots for a takedown but Ryan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sasuke Swan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Swan dives in for a single leg takedown but Ryan sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ryan gets a takedown into half guard.

Swan has one foot on Ryan's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Ryan falls off balance throwing a combination
and Swan counters with a one-two to the body.

Swan rushes Ryan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Swan has Ryan pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ryan manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Ryan just misses with a elbow thrown towards Swan's brow.
Matt Ryan seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Ryan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ryan looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Swan!

Swan bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Swan pushes Ryan up against the cage in a clinch.

Swan decides to pull guard.

Swan is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Swan is looking to take this one to the mat.

Ryan manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Swan closes the distance and clinches.
Swan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ryan gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Ryan drags the fight down to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Swan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Ryan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Swan gets to his feet. Ryan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Sasuke Swan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Swan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Swan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ryan avoids it really well and circles away.
Ryan shapes to counter with a head kick.

Ryan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Swan pushes Ryan off and scrambles back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sasuke Swan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Swan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
