The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barton avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Barton feinted with a counter takedown.
Maafala tries to clinch but Barton moves out of range.
Barton circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Maafala counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Maafala takes a jab right on the kisser.
Barton connects with a body shot that sends Maafala's belly button to the back.
Barton digs a good hook to Maafala's body.
Barton is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

It looks like Itula Maafala has been cut.
Maafala wants to clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barton throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Maafala stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A right-left combo lands from Barton.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maafala is looking to clinch.

Maafala stuffs the takedown attempt from Barton. Barton gets slowly back to his feet.
Barton takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Itula Maafala is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Maafala closes the distance but Barton moves to the side

and Barton counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Maafala seems keen to control Barton's posture.
Barton makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maafala can do anything to dispel that myth.
Barton forces his way into half guard.

Maafala tries to kick Barton off but Barton keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
