PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eric Stajin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saul Mollenhauer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eric Stajin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Saul Mollenhauer!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mollenhauer shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stajin but Stajin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mollenhauer throws a sloppy head kick and Stajin moves out of range easily.
Stajin misses with a low kick.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Mollenhauer!

Mollenhauer closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Stajin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mollenhauer on the ground.
Mollenhauer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stajin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mollenhauer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mollenhauer is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stajin defends it well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mollenhauer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stajin pinned against the cage. Stajin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mollenhauer moves out of range of the body kick.

It looks like Saul Mollenhauer has been cut.

Mollenhauer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Stajin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mollenhauer's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mollenhauer's back!
Mollenhauer manages to reverse the position and now he's in Stajin's guard. Nice work there by Mollenhauer.

Mollenhauer drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stajin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stajin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stajin!

Stajin connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Mollenhauer some visible discomfort.

Stajin stands up and beckons Mollenhauer to his feet.
Mollenhauer fails with a takedown attempt.
Eric Stajin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saul Mollenhauer.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mollenhauer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Stajin is just riding it out for now. Mollenhauer eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Eric Stajin will probably get the nod.

Mollenhauer shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mollenhauer has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mollenhauer there as he acknowledges the shot.

Horrible takedown by Mollenhauer or perhaps it was just good defense by Stajin which made him look bad.

Mollenhauer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stajin's guard.

Mollenhauer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stajin's waist but Stajin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mollenhauer off to one side.

I would just about give that final round to Saul Mollenhauer.
