PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fionn McCool (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCool comes to the cage accompanied by Dearg Doom. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fionn McCool!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Andrew Anderson!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson shoots for a double leg takedown but McCool sprawls well. He's pushed Anderson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Anderson ducks right into an uppercut from McCool.


It looks like Andrew Anderson has been cut.

McCool has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Axis of Evil in the buildup to the fight.
Anderson blocks a jab.
McCool lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Anderson circles away quickly and effectively.
Anderson is clearly trying to counter these attacks from McCool with a body shot.
Anderson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

McCool sends Anderson crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! McCool is motioning to the referee to let Anderson up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Anderson slips a straight right by McCool.
Anderson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
McCool pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Anderson moves out of range of the strikes.

Fionn McCool has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Anderson.

McCool throws a nice looking combination but Anderson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A nice side step and Anderson releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Anderson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from McCool.
Anderson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

It looks like Fionn McCool has been cut.

Anderson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McCool sprawls well initially but Anderson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Anderson wants to work for an arm triangle but McCool is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Anderson is looking for a kimura but McCool is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Anderson to get the leverage.
McCool on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McCool tries to get out of the position.
McCool holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Anderson prevents McCool from standing back up.

Anderson seems to be looking for submissions.

Anderson is trying to control the action in half guard but McCool is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Anderson uses his free foot to push down on McCool's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for McCool.

Anderson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of McCool's face.
Anderson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Anderson throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Anderson avoids the attempt from McCool to control.
Anderson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCool is breathing heavily.
Anderson postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! McCool is out cold - huge knockout for Anderson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Andrew Anderson!

A very excited looking Andrew Anderson made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Fionn McCool spoke after the fight, saying 'i have lost this battle but not the war i shall return to have my vengeance '.
