PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fritz Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sweaty BallSack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). BallSack has chosen Drowning Pool - Bodies as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fritz Gates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sweaty BallSack!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

BallSack tries to keep at a distance but Gates has taken the fight into the clinch.
BallSack is trying to pull guard but Gates turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
BallSack throws an elbow but it misses.
Gates is pressed up against the cage. BallSack has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gates down to the mat. Gates avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

BallSack gets a double leg takedown into Gates's guard.
BallSack prevents Gates from getting back to his feet.

Gates has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but BallSack can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gates is looking for a triangle but BallSack pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

BallSack is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gates is trying to control the position but BallSack postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
BallSack passes easily into side control. Nice work.
BallSack wants to control but Gates is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gates is trying to get back to half guard.
Gates wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

BallSack is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gates knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Gates explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Gates gets a clinch.
Gates avoids a wild elbow strike from BallSack.
BallSack has Gates pressed against the cage, preventing Gates from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Gates tried to land a shot to the body but connects with BallSack's elbow.

Gates gets control of BallSack's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gates will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Gates is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst BallSack is controlling him.

Gates escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. BallSack gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
BallSack really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gates. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gates is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells BallSack's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Gates wants to sweep but no luck.
BallSack stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gates swivels though and keeps the full guard.
BallSack trying to control but Gates is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gates looking to hit a scissor sweep but BallSack is one step ahead there.
Gates preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
BallSack throws a strike but Gates rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
BallSack is pulling down on Gates's head. It's preventing any offense from Gates, at least for the moment.
BallSack is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gates trying to stand up but can't free himself from BallSack's guard.
BallSack looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
BallSack is trying to keep Gates in close.
Gates is looking to work some ground and pound but BallSack has wrist control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fritz Gates dominated that round.
That's time! Gates's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


BallSack fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gates avoids it really well and circles away.

BallSack gets a double leg takedown into Gates's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
BallSack slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

BallSack is trying to get an arm triangle but Gates is defending well.

BallSack swings around for an armbar but Gates sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into BallSack's guard.
Gates throws a big elbow that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if BallSack can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gates distracts BallSack with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Gates working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of BallSack's head.
BallSack controls Gates momentarily but Gates frees himself.

Gates scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Fritz Gates overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gates drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gates jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
BallSack utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Gates would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
BallSack is looking to sweep but instead, Gates has passed into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gates trying to control from half guard but BallSack is working away.
Gates is looking to stall here but BallSack recovers full guard.
BallSack looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gates is one step ahead there.
Gates is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gates wants to control from the top but BallSack keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Gates tries to close the distance and clinch but BallSack swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

BallSack takes the fight into the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gates controlling the action here for a moment.
BallSack gets underhooks to prevent Gates's takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Sweaty BallSack will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


BallSack looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gates swings away with a leg kick that misses.
It seemed like BallSack was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Gates misses with a takedown attempt - BallSack sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
BallSack lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gates closes the distance and clinches.

Gates doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
BallSack wants to take the fight to the mat but Gates manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Gates displaying some good clinch control by pressing BallSack up against the cage.
Gates is trying to maintain a safe position but BallSack gets an underhook and turns Gates into the cage.
BallSack being controlled against the cage.
Gates doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gates goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Gates stalling in the clinch but BallSack improves position.
Gates is stalling here.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Fritz Gates.
Gates misses with a low kick.
BallSack swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

BallSack shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than BallSack was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Gates is trying to buck BallSack off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gates manages to work his way to half guard, despite BallSack's best efforts.
Gates pushes BallSack off looking to stand but BallSack dives back in and keeps control.
BallSack trying to control from Gates's half guard. Gates has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
BallSack looking to pass the guard.
Gates wants to stand and escape but BallSack is having none of it.

BallSack thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
BallSack stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gates swivels though and keeps the full guard.
BallSack looking to sit in guard and control but Gates gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gates lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Gates is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gates preventing the sweep.
Gates throwing strikes from guard but BallSack blocks nicely.
BallSack has Gates pulled in close to control his posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gates won't allow BallSack to sweep him here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Fritz Gates.
I think Gates has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
