And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Han Solo Berger!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funkyama misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Aoki Funkyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Funkyama tries for a takedown but Berger circles away easily
letting Berger counter with a right hand.

Funkyama fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Berger avoids it really well and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice uppercut lands for Berger. That snapped Funkyama's head back.

Berger fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Funkyama manages to avoid it.

Funkyama is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Funkyama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Berger wants to get back to full guard.

Berger won't allow Funkyama to pass to mount.
Funkyama seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Berger does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Berger is positioning himself well to prevent Funkyama advancing to mount.
Funkyama is keen to just control but Berger is a slippery customer.
Funkyama moves nicely into side control.

Berger avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Funkyama.
You can see the frustration on Berger's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Berger is positioning himself well to prevent Funkyama advancing to mount.
Funkyama wants to advance to full mount but Berger doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Berger postures up and lands a big shot to Funkyama's brow.

Funkyama has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Berger can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Berger lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Berger wants to pass the guard but Funkyama is keeping the position.

Funkyama is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Berger defends well.

Berger fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Funkyama shoots and misses
and Berger counters with a straight right hand.
Berger looks to throw the jab but Funkyama is out of range.
Berger throws a leg kick which misses Funkyama's front leg but catches the back leg as Funkyama tries to avoid it.
Jab, jab by Berger - just one landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Funkyama shoots in for a takedown but Berger shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Berger looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Berger has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Funkyama has his takedown stuffed
and Berger counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Funkyama looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Berger is fending him off so far but Funkyama persists. Nope, Berger circles away and we're back to standing.

Berger connects with a leg kick. Funkyama looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Aoki Funkyama is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Berger lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Berger lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Funkyama shoots in for a double leg but Berger sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Berger counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Berger counters with an outside leg kick.

Berger lands a big uppercut and Funkyama crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Funkyama looks OK. Berger waves Funkyama back to his feet!


It looks like Aoki Funkyama has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Berger lands with an overhand left.


Funkyama is rocked!
Berger steps in with a hook that catches Funkyama right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Berger follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Funkyama looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Han Solo Berger!
Han Solo Berger is the new welterweight champion!
A relieved looking Han Solo Berger thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
