The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wheedon shoots in for a takedown but Ireland shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Ireland tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wheedon paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ireland really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wheedon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ireland has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wheedon is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ireland.

Wheedon is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Ireland presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Wheedon has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ireland uses from the top position.
