PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Calypso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes to the cage accompanied by UFC: Closer to the Edge (Jared Leto). Calypso has chosen Jedi Mind Tricks - Genghis Khan as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 39 - 16 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Simon Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Calypso!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Dmitry Maklakov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Calypso changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Williams tries to avoid it but Calypso manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Williams to the ground. Williams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Calypso shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Williams as he jumps to the side.
Calypso throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Williams sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Williams defending well as Calypso loads up on a big left hand.
Calypso shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Williams pinned against the cage. Williams gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Simon Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Calypso.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Calypso is looking to take a break and control but Williams is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Calypso is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Williams sees it coming and defends easily.
Williams keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Williams might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Calypso looks to land a strike but Williams avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Calypso stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Calypso prevents Williams from getting back to his feet.

Calypso has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Williams's face.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Calypso tries to control but Williams wriggling away.
Williams tries to buck Calypso off but he can't manage it.
Calypso wants to control the pace but Williams is squirming around nicely.

Williams throws a chopping leg kick but Calypso manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Williams has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Calypso finds it's way round the side to connect with Williams's head.
Simon Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Williams misses the jab.
Calypso shoots in for a takedown but Williams shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Calypso manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Williams on his heels. He'll look to pass Williams's guard now, I'm sure.
Calypso postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Calypso has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Calypso seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Calypso looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Williams bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Calypso controls Williams momentarily but Williams frees himself.

Calypso is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Williams defends well.

Williams's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Williams would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Williams wants to get up but he can't break Calypso's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Our spies down at at Canadian Elite Bruins Gym inform us that Calypso has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Calypso is looking to cinch up a triangle. Williams throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Calypso's body to avoid the submission. Calypso has instead reached around Williams's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Calypso arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
