PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Birchall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Martino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martino has chosen DMX - Intro (One Two) as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Charles Martino told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Birchall does no damage.
Martino throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Birchall swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Birchall tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Martino defends well and Birchall ends up having to push Martino into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Martino uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Martino looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Birchall definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Birchall seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Oooooh!!! Martino has knocked Birchall down with a huge combo! Martino steps away and waves a wobbly Birchall back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Paul Birchall has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Birchall shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Martino napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Martino explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Oh Birchall is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Charles Martino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Birchall with that takedown attempt.
Martino ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Birchall seems to have got his legs back now.
Martino throws an off balance right hand
and Birchall connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Martino sends Birchall crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Martino is motioning to the referee to let Birchall up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Martino throws a shot from downtown. Birchall moves away and avoids it.
Martino misses with an uppercut. Birchall saw that one coming.
A counter left hand to the body from Birchall misses its target.
Martino fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Birchall looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Martino lands a slapping body shot.
Birchall is breathing heavily.
Birchall fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Birchall. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Martino closes the distance and clinches.
Still in the clinch, Martino scores with a nice short uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
