The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Axe keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Flowers shoots in and bounces Axe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Flowers loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Axe has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Flowers has passed into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Axe manages to reverse the position and now he's in Flowers's guard. Nice work there by Axe.

Flowers is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Axe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Flowers sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Axe is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
You can see the frustration on Axe's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Flowers shoots for a double leg takedown but Axe sprawls well. He's pushed Flowers's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Axe closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Flowers did well to prevent Axe getting side control.

Axe tries to stand but can't do so whilst Flowers controls his leg.
Axe is trying to control. Flowers wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are battling for position here. Flowers manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Axe wants to take the fight to the mat but Flowers manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Axe drops down looking for an ankle pick but Flowers pulls his leg out and moves away.

Jeramy Flowers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Herc Axe.

Flowers fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Axe, pushing him back against the cage.

Flowers has Axe pressed against the cage, preventing Axe from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Axe takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Axe is trying to break the clinch but Flowers is controlling him.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Flowers creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Axe changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Flowers fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Flowers lands a couple of good shots and Axe has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Axe is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Flowers gets his way!
Flowers has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
