PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Deon Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tanner Grimm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grimm has chosen Lose Yourself as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Deon Marsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tanner Grimm!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grimm throws a sloppy head kick
and Marsh counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Grimm throws the kick towards the body but Marsh avoids it.
Marsh tries to counter with a takedown but Grimm is quick to defend against it.
Grimm keeps the fight on the outside.

Grimm closes the distance and clinches.
Marsh could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Grimm has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Marsh is trying to keep an underhook but Grimm manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Marsh blocking the ground and pound attempt from Grimm.
Grimm tries to pass the half guard into mount. Marsh knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Grimm wants to get back to his feet.

Grimm is taking a breather. Marsh says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Grimm is looking to advance position but Marsh won't allow it.
Grimm content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Marsh tries to close the distance and clinch but Grimm swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Grimm moves into the clinch.
Grimm keeps control of Marsh as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Grimm tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Marsh just stands there and leans against the cage.
Marsh is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Grimm is defending well.
Grimm tries to pull guard but Marsh holds him up against the cage and eventually Grimm drops back down to his feet.
Marsh tries to circle away but Grimm has him pinned against the cage.

Marsh escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Marsh drives through and clinches with Grimm against the cage.
Marsh wants to get back to striking at distance but Grimm won't allow it.
Grimm wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Marsh is trying to push Grimm away but Grimm has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Grimm has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Marsh uses from the top position.

Grimm manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Marsh manages to get himself to full guard.

Marsh wants to sweep here but Grimm controlling him for the moment.
Marsh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Grimm on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Grimm darts in looking for a takedown but Marsh gets double underhooks and turns Grimm into the cage.
Deon Marsh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tanner Grimm.

Grimm drives through with a takedown into Marsh's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Grimm keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Marsh's efforts to push away.
Marsh has had enough of the clinch but Grimm keeps him there for the moment.
Grimm tries for a takedown but Marsh manages to get underhooks.

Grimm pulls Marsh into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Marsh tries to close the distance and clinch but Grimm swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Grimm darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Marsh is trying to control but can't.

Grimm throwing shots but Marsh is blocking nicely.
Grimm is keen to just control but Marsh is a slippery customer.
Marsh regains full guard. Nicely done.
Tanner Grimm has got the better of the ground game so far.
Grimm controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Grimm wants to control from the top but Marsh keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Grimm is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Marsh is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Marsh has escaped and now he's on top!

Grimm is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Marsh might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Marsh tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Grimm was well out of range. Poor timing from Marsh.

Marsh throws a right and a left that Grimm avoids nicely.
Marsh fails with an attempt to clinch.
Grimm feints the counter takedown.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Marsh throws a one two combo.
Grimm throws a sloppy head kick and Marsh moves out of range easily.
Grimm shoots in for a takedown but Marsh shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Marsh is looking to clinch but Grimm is avoiding it.

Grimm clinches with his opponent.
Grimm tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Marsh just stands there and leans against the cage.
Marsh is trying to break free.

Marsh has had enough of the clinch but Grimm keeps him there for the moment.

Marsh wants to improve his position but Grimm is controlling well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Grimm has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Marsh wants to control but Grimm is having none of it.
Grimm controlling from the full mount.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Marsh tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Grimm looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Marsh wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Grimm.
Grimm takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Grimm thowing shots but they're missing.
Marsh takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Grimm unloads with some shots from mount but Marsh bucks and avoids them well.
Marsh wants to control but Grimm is having none of it.
Marsh is trying to reverse the position but instead Grimm has taken his back - oops!

I would not like to be Marsh right now.
Marsh covering up well and avoiding damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Marsh won't enjoy being in this position. Grimm looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Marsh is tapping - it's over boys! Grimm picks up the submission victory!
