PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sinan Yak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Malone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yak kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Silahsiz Kuvvet - Sözlerim Silahim. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sinan Yak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frankie Malone!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Malone gets caught napping as Yak dives in and scores a takedown. Malone manages to retain guard.

Malone manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Yak takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Malone throws a body kick that misses.
Yak appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Malone throws a head kick that misses.

Yak changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Malone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Malone explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A thudding body kick lands there by Malone!
Yak keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Malone gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Yak trying to control the position from guard on top but Malone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Malone keeping full guard, as Yak tries to pass.
Yak wants to get up but he can't break Malone's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Malone keeping moving, preventing Yak from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Malone swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Yak is fighting to break Malone's control of his arms but Malone is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Yak trying to control but Malone is working from the bottom.
Malone told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Malone pushes Yak off and scrambles back to his feet.
Malone lets loose with a powerful body kick. Yak will feel that in the morning.

Malone throws a leg kick but Yak sees it coming and moves out of range.
Malone goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Malone ducks under a wild hook from Yak.
Malone misses with a head kick.

Malone instigates a clinch.
Yak has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Malone is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Malone breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Yak drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Malone manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Yak has Malone in his guard.
Yak looking to hit a scissor sweep but Malone is one step ahead there.
Malone must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Yak avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Yak looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Malone is looking to stand up but Yak won't let him.
Malone stands up over Yak, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Malone wanted to stand there but Yak had control of the position.
Yak lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Malone has Yak pulled in close to control his posture.

Yak postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Malone is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Yak, into his guard.

Malone gets to his feet. Yak looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Malone feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Yak's calf.
Yak tries for a takedown but Malone sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Frankie Malone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Malone tries a low kick but Yak avoids it.
Yak was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Malone dominated that round.
That's time! Yak's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Malone throws a push kick but Yak slaps the foot to one side.
Yak throws an overhand right that lands on Malone's shoulder, as Malone tries to avoid the shot.
Malone uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Yak.
Malone tries a head kick but it misses.
Malone tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yak swats him away and circles back towards the center.
It looked like Yak was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Malone.
Malone blocks a jab.
Yak shoots in and drives through. Malone sprawls well.
Yak looks to land a right hand but Malone moved out of range.
Malone throws a half hearted mid kick.
Malone scores with a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Malone looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yak is fending him off so far but Malone persists. Nope, Yak circles away and we're back to standing.
A quick step to the side and Yak tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Malone lands a head kick!
Yak blocks the body kick.

Malone rushes Yak and presses him up against the cage.

Malone pulls Yak into guard.
Frankie Malone has got the better of the ground game so far.
Malone keeping full guard, as Yak tries to pass.
Malone manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yak manages to get himself to full guard.

Malone trying to control but Yak is working from the bottom.

Yak has his foot on Malone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Malone works his way back into a safe position though.

Malone got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yak has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Malone has managed to get both his arms back between Yak's legs - danger averted.

Malone seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Malone pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Yak lands a jab.
Malone fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Yak swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Malone lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Malone closes the distance and pushes Yak back into the cage.
Yak drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Malone gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Yak is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sinan Yak. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yak is looking to take this one to the mat.
Yak is working for takedown but Malone is calmly controlling the position for now.
Yak wants to take the fight to the mat but Malone manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Malone has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
