PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy DeVito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sub Norris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Norris is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Norris Man - When Your Time Is Up. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 3, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy DeVito!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sub Norris!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Norris tries to clinch up but DeVito circles away and keeps his distance.

Norris closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. DeVito quickly recovers to half guard.
Norris thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed DeVito's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Norris is working for a kimura but DeVito is defending it quite comfortably.

DeVito is defending against the submission attempts here by Norris.

Norris is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
DeVito is staying active underneath Norris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
DeVito might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Norris might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control DeVito haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Norris is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but DeVito is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
DeVito manages to work his way to half guard, despite Norris's best efforts.

Norris is looking for a kimura but DeVito is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Norris to get the leverage.
DeVito is trying to get back to full guard.

DeVito gets back to full guard.
Norris trying to control but DeVito is working from the bottom.
Norris wants to pass the guard but DeVito is keeping the position.
Norris looking to sit in guard and control but DeVito gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
DeVito wants to stand but Norris is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
DeVito scores with a nice right hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Norris shoots in but DeVito avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Norris wants to clinch but DeVito slips to the side
and DeVito connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
DeVito slaps away a takedown attempt from Norris, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Norris is looking to clinch.
DeVito fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
DeVito circles away from the clinch attempt.
DeVito lands a really nice looking cross but Norris seems unphased.


Norris is rocked!
DeVito rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Norris moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
DeVito scores with a shot to the body.

DeVito cracks Norris with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Norris looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can DeVito finish him?
Norris is still on wobbly legs! Can DeVito finish him?
Norris shoots and misses
and DeVito counters with a huge left! Norris is in big trouble! He's backing up but DeVito isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Norris from any more damage. A dominating finish by DeVito!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tommy DeVito!
A relieved looking Tommy DeVito thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
