PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Renner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sparky Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renner comes to the cage accompanied by God Particle. The crowd seem to be enjoying Anderson's choice of entrance music: Lamb of God - Walk With Me In Hell. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson checks a low kick from Renner.
Anderson throws a chopping leg kick but Renner manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Renner throws a hook to the side of Anderson's head but Anderson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Anderson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Renner swivels and escapes.
Anderson throws a lazy right hand but Renner sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Anderson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Renner takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Renner steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Anderson.
Renner ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Anderson avoids the body shot from Renner.

Renner lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Anderson backs up against the cage.
Anderson throws a body shot but no joy.
Renner throws a hook but Anderson blocks it.
Anderson tries a head kick but it misses.
Renner throws a front kick aimed at Anderson's knee but Anderson avoids it well.
Renner tries to score with a low kick but Anderson moves his leg out of the way.
Anderson misses with a hook. Renner ducked under it nicely.

Anderson tries to land a front kick but Renner steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Anderson dives in and grabs Renner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Renner pushes down on Anderson's head and hops out.
Renner appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Renner throws a hook but Anderson blocks it.
Anderson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Renner throws a sloppy head kick and Anderson moves out of range easily.
Renner misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Anderson.
And Anderson tries to counter it with a takedown but Renner pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Anderson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Horrible takedown attempt by Anderson or perhaps it was just good defense by Renner, which made it look bad.
Renner lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Renner stands up over Anderson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Renner is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Anderson can do to turn this around?

Renner throws a right and a left that both miss.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Good leg kick by Anderson there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Renner throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Anderson moves out of range as Renner strikes.
Renner misses with an uppercut. Anderson saw that one coming.
Renner connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Anderson has Renner up against the cage in a clinch.
Anderson works on Renner's body with a couple of short punches.

Renner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Renner lands a really nice looking cross but Anderson seems unphased.
Anderson throws an overhand right that lands on Renner's shoulder, as Renner tries to avoid the shot.
Anderson scores with a jab.
Anderson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Anderson drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Renner defends it well.
Renner on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Renner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Renner lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Anderson at a distance.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Anderson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Renner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Renner lands a nice leg kick that just misses Anderson's sensitive parts.
Anderson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Renner.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Renner closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Anderson! Renner dives in looking to finish! Anderson is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jeremy Renner!
