PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bee Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior Jawo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bee Jay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Junior Jawo!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jawo looks for a takedown but Jay sprawls well.
Jay lands with a hook. Jawo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Jay pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Jay takes the fight into the clinch.
Jawo tries to pull guard but Jay holds him up against the cage and eventually Jawo drops back down to his feet.
Jay lands a knee to the head.
Jawo fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bee Jay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Junior Jawo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jawo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jay walks away with a smile on his face. Jawo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jay with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Jay!


It looks like Junior Jawo has been cut.
Jay throws a looping overhand right but Jawo ducks down to avoid it.

Jawo looking to score a takedown here. Jay is defending well but Jawo drives through and ends up in Jay's guard.
Jay is looking to stand up but Jawo isn't so interested in that idea.
Jay trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Jawo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jay is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jawo, into his guard.

Jawo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jay defends it easily.

Jawo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jay defends well.

Jay stands and steps away. Jawo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Jawo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
As Jawo tries to get set, Jay tries to push him back and clinch up but Jawo manages to avoid the attempt.

Jay clinches up with Jawo and pushes him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jay throws a leg kick but Jawo sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Jay clinches up against the cage.
Jawo tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Jay decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jawo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jay has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Jawo has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jay doesn't manage to clinch there - Jawo circles away.
A good leg kick by Jay.
Jay looks to throw the jab but Jawo is out of range.
And Jawo tries to counter it with a takedown but Jay pushes his down on his head and steps out.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jawo.
Jay misses with a low kick.
Jawo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jay tries to avoid it but Jawo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jay to the ground. Jay escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Donk. Jay catches Jawo right on the button with a cross.
Jay throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jawo.
An inside leg kick lands from Jay.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jay misses with a straight right.
Jawo moves away from the strike by Jay.
Jay throws a front kick aimed at Jawo's knee but Jawo avoids it well.
Bee Jay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jawo.

Jawo gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Jawo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jay is just riding it out for now. Jawo eventually gives up the hold.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jawo tries for a takedown but Jay circles away easily
and Jay counters with a nice uppercut.
Bee Jay is winning the standup battle so far.
Jay tries to close the distance and clinch but Jawo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jay looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Jay fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Jawo checks it well.
Jay is looking to slow Jawo down with leg kicks.

Jay gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jay wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Jawo manages to pass to side control.

Jawo is looking for a kimura but Jay is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jawo to get the leverage.

Jay kicks off Jawo and gets to his feet.
Jay throws a hook but Jawo blocks it.
Jawo has his takedown stuffed
and Jay counters with a low kick, right behind Jawo 's knee.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
No luck for Jawo with that takedown attempt.

Jawo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jay is trying to defend but Jawo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Jay turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Jay will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jawo seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Jay has recovered full guard.
Jay wants to get back to his feet but Jawo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jawo tries to free his leg and advance position but Jay is retaining full guard.
Jawo trying to control the position from guard on top but Jay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jawo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jay manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jawo has Jay in his guard.

Jawo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jay can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jawo has a closed guard, preventing Jay from standing up.

Jawo has an active guard here but Jay has managed to pass into half guard.
Jay wants to stand up but Jawo is controlling the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jawo moves out of range of the leg kick from Jay.
Jay clobbers Jawo with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Jay looks to land a left hand but Jawo moved out of range nicely.
A big right from Jay misses.
Jay swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jawo defending well as Jay loads up on a big left hand.
Jay is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jawo can do to turn this around?

Jawo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jay to the mat! Jay manages to get full guard.
Jay is looking to stand up but Jawo isn't so interested in that idea.

Jawo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jay is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jay has escaped and now he's on top!
Jay has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jawo is proving hard to escape from.

Jawo throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jay escapes and throws Jawo's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Jay has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Jay is looking to stand up but Jawo isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bee Jay showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jay, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Bee Jay decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
