Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Garland Nixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Hubbard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Garland Nixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Hubbard!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hubbard rushes Nixon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Nixon looking to slow down the pace here.
Hubbard dodges an elbow strike from Nixon.
Nixon wants a takedown.

Hubbard pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hubbard misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Nixon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hubbard seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nixon trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hubbard wants to pass the guard but Nixon is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nixon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Nixon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Nixon really is a fat lump.
Hubbard controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hubbard must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Nixon working for a triangle but Hubbard defends it easily.

Hubbard stands and steps away. Nixon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hubbard lands with a nice combination. Nixon backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Garland Nixon has been cut.
Nixon throws a lazy head kick

and Hubbard counters by moving into the clinch.
Nixon is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Hubbard pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hubbard has closed the distance and engaged Nixon in a clinch.
Hubbard tries to work over Nixon's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Hubbard jumps guard.

Nixon decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hubbard, up you get!

Hubbard drives through with a takedown into guard.
Nixon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hubbard postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hubbard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Nixon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hubbard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hubbard postures up in Nixon's guard and throws a big left but Nixon blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hubbard slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Hubbard has gone for a leg lock! Nixon slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hubbard's guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nixon has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hubbard is proving hard to escape from.
Hubbard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nixon trying to control but Hubbard is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nixon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Hubbard misses with a leg kick

and Nixon moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Hubbard dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Garland Nixon's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hubbard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jeff Hubbard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hubbard scores with a head kick.
Nixon is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Hubbard. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Hubbard shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nixon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hubbard cracks Nixon with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hubbard has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hubbard has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Nixon to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Hubbard is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Nixon pulls down on the head and he's put Hubbard to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Garland Nixon!
