The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chavez misses with a takedown attempt - Sherk sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sherk swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Sherk looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Chavez is trying to get back to full guard.
Sherk wants to free his trapped foot but Chavez is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Chavez is staying active underneath Sherk, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sherk wants to work for an arm triangle but Chavez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sherk looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Chavez is not content to let Sherk control the position.
