PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Rude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kev Rubio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rude's entrance music is The Headstones - Long Way to Neverland. A fine choice. Rubio has chosen turn down for what as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Rude!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kev Rubio!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rubio shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rubio showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rubio winds up and cracks Rude with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Rude is controlling Rubio's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Rude trying to control but Rubio postures up.
Rude gets back to full guard.
Rude trying to control the position.
Rubio trying to control but Rude is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rude keeping full guard, as Rubio tries to pass.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rubio throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rude works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Rubio got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rude has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rubio has managed to get both his arms back between Rude's legs - danger averted.
Rubio postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rubio throwing strikes but missing.
Rubio really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rude. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rude wants to sweep but no luck.

Rubio wants to pass the guard but Rude is keeping the position.
Rubio postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rubio tries to free his leg and advance position but Rude is retaining full guard.
Rude bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rubio's guard.

Rude wants to control from the top but Rubio keeps moving.
Rude is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rubio has a closed guard, preventing Rude from standing up.
Rude trying to control the position from guard on top but Rubio is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rude wants to stand and escape but instead Rubio has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Rude looking for a guillotine here but Rubio defends easily.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Rubio working his ground and pound in the gym.

Rude is looking for a triangle but Rubio pushes his legs off easily.
Rubio trying to control but Rude is working from the bottom.
Rubio with a flurry of punches that miss.

Rude looking for a guillotine here but Rubio defends easily.
Rubio works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rude wants to get back to his feet.
Rude wants to get back to full guard.

Rubio wants to work for an arm triangle but Rude is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Rude trying to hold on to Rubio's head to control him but Rubio postures up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Rude manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Rude escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rubio gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rubio trying to control the position from guard on top but Rude is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Rude dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Rubio drives through and clinches with Rude against the cage.

Rude has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rubio regains guard immediately.
Rude trying to control but Rubio is working from the bottom.

Rude drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rubio looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rubio looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rubio!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rubio wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rude keeps working.
Rude is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at The Factory, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Rubio looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Rubio lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rude down.
Rude wants to get back to his feet.
Rude defending against the ground and pound.
Rude sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Rude is looking to control Rubio's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rude avoid being mounted?
Rude works his way to full guard. Good work.

Rude has his foot on Rubio's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rubio works his way back into a safe position though.
Rude looking for a sweep. Not yet Rude, not yet.

Rude escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rubio gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rubio must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rude had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rubio defends it easily.

Rubio postures up.
Rubio is in close to Rude's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Rude keeping moving, preventing Rubio from controlling successfully.

Rude looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rubio is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Rude is looking for a triangle but Rubio pushes his legs off easily.
Rude throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Rubio stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Rubio has Rude up against the cage in a clinch.

Rubio breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Rubio fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rude, pushing him back against the cage.
Rubio struggles to land a body shot inside as Rude controls his hands.
Rubio tries to score a body lock takedown but Rude shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Rubio looking for a takedown.
Rubio avoiding damage.
Rude is trying to pull guard but Rubio has him pressed against the cage.
Rubio lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Rubio manages to break the clinch.

Rubio gets a takedown into half guard.
Rude moves into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rude tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rude not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Rude looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Rubio is defending well. Rude quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Rubio has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Rude celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Nick Rude!
In his post fight interview, Nick Rude started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
In defeat, Kev Rubio stepped up to the mic, saying 'i did my best and i give it all but next time i will win '.
