The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hammond shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shaw is trying to defend but Hammond finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shaw is looking to escape.

Shaw wants to stand back up but Hammond manages to pass into side control.

Hammond seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shaw for as long as he can get away with.
Hammond's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Shaw's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Hammond fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shaw to the ground. Hammond is now in Shaw's guard.

Shaw will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Shaw gets caught napping as Hammond dives in and scores a takedown. Shaw manages to retain guard.

Shaw throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hammond escapes and throws Shaw's legs to the side, diving into side control!
