The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendel darts in and clinches West up against the cage.
Mendel misses with a punch to the body.
West blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Mendel swings away with an uppercut that misses.

West escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mendel connects with an inside leg kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Mendel, right into the meat.

West closes the distance and clinches.
Mendel should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

West breaks from the clinch.
West looks to score with a jab to the body but Mendel is just out of range.
Mendel pushes West away with a front kick.
Mendel lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

West sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
West throws a series of punches but Mendel avoids them all with ease.

West drops down looking for a counter takedown but Mendel sprawls and moves away.

Mendel dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on West. That did some damage!
Gregor Mendel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
West fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Mendel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but West paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Mendel fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with West, pushing him back against the cage.

West drives through and clinches with Mendel against the cage.

West's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
No joy there for West, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mendel keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gregor Mendel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

West pushes Mendel up against the cage in a clinch.
West tries to break the clinch but Mendel is controlling the position.

Mendel creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through West's defenses.

Mendel gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
West blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

West escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendel lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

West closes the distance and pushes Mendel back into the cage.

West manages to break the clinch.
West steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mendel.
Mendel tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. West manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

West closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mendel to the mat! Mendel manages to get full guard.

West has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mendel to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! West is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mendel pulls down on the head and he's put West to sleep! This one is all over!
