PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Robert Parr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arik Dragunov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arik Dragunov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robert Parr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Arik Dragunov!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dragunov lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Parr backs up against the cage.
Dragunov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Parr.
Parr is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Dragunov.
Dragunov stalks Parr and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Parr's face. Parr staggers backwards, shaken.
Dragunov throws a right and a left that Parr avoids nicely.
A left and a right from Dragunov both land. Nice combination.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nice takedown defense from Dragunov. No joy for Parr on that attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Dragunov. Those never looked like landing.
Parr attempts a counter takedown but Dragunov avoids it well and moves away.
Parr misses with a few strikes there.
Parr will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Parr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dragunov, pushing him back against the cage.

Parr jumps guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Parr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dragunov defends well.

Dragunov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Parr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dragunov has managed to get both his arms back between Parr's legs - danger averted.

Parr looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dragunov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Parr swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dragunov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Parr works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Parr is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dragunov throws a head kick that misses.
Dragunov misses with the combination.
Arik Dragunov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Parr throws a solid leg kick but Dragunov takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Parr.

Parr drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Parr just content to control the position.

Parr working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Dragunov is looking for a sweep.
Parr is working Dragunov over with some ground and pound from side control.
We've been informed that Dragunov has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Dragunov falls off balance throwing a combination

and Parr counters with a single leg into guard. Dragunov didn't expect that.

Parr stays in close to Dragunov's body and controls the position.

Parr stands up from Dragunov's guard - Parr perhaps looking for a knockout.
Dragunov stuffs the takedown attempt from Parr. Parr gets slowly back to his feet.

Parr instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Arik Dragunov will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Parr darts in and clinches Dragunov up against the cage.
Dragunov can't break the clinch.

Parr breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Parr fails with the takedown.

Dragunov is looking for the big counter here.
Parr shoots in for a takedown but Dragunov shows good takedown defense.
Dragunov wants to counter with a clinch but Parr pushes him away.

Parr drives through with a takedown into Dragunov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dragunov shoots for a takedown but Parr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dragunov looks to land a combination. Parr sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Parr shoots in for a takedown but Dragunov shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Parr takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Parr gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Parr keeps control of Dragunov as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Parr gets control of Dragunov's arms and successfully pulls guard. Parr will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Robert Parr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Parr holds on and takes a little breather.
Dragunov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Parr wants to stand and escape but Dragunov is having none of it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dragunov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parr wants to sweep but no luck.
Dragunov wants to stand but Parr has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Parr lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Parr gets to his feet. Dragunov looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Parr looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Parr shoots in but no luck this time.
Dragunov throws a lazy head kick

and Parr counters by clinching up.

Parr manages to pull guard.
Dragunov trying to control the position from guard on top but Parr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dragunov tries to stand but Parr is controlling from the bottom.
Parr will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Dragunov is looking to stand up but Parr won't let him.

Parr looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dragunov is one step ahead there.
Dragunov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Dragunov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Parr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dragunov has managed to get both his arms back between Parr's legs - danger averted.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Parr has a closed guard, preventing Dragunov from standing up.

Parr moves into the clinch successfully.

Dragunov is trying to break the clinch but Parr has him pressed against the cage.

Parr manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Parr seems keen to control Dragunov's posture.

That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Dragunov works over Parr's head and body with a nice combination.
Parr takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Dragunov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Parr's waist but Parr gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dragunov off to one side.
Parr throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Robert Parr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dragunov goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Dragunov misses with a head kick.

Parr pushes Dragunov up against the cage in a clinch.
Dragunov is trying to break free.

Parr's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
No joy there for Dragunov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Parr throws a quick counter kick to the body but Dragunov avoids it.
Arik Dragunov seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dragunov tries to bum rush Parr with a series of wild strikes but Parr uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Horrible takedown attempt by Parr or perhaps it was just good defense by Dragunov, which made it look bad.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Parr fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dragunov manages to avoid it.
Parr tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dragunov swivels and escapes.

Parr bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Dragunov seems a little lost for a moment, as Parr dominates the positioning.
Parr's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Parr has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Dragunov is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Parr asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Parr moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Parr has closed the distance and engaged Dragunov in a clinch.
Parr pushes off an throws an elbow but Dragunov leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Dragunov working aggressively here.

Parr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Parr fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dragunov lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Dragunov feints a jab promting Parr to slip. Dragunov then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Parr slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Parr takes the fight into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dragunov is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Parr gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Dragunov wants to get back to striking at distance but Parr won't allow it.
Dragunov can't break the clinch.
Dragunov swings wildly with an uppercut but Parr uses good head movement to avoid it.

Parr ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Parr no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Parr pulls Dragunov in close to prevent any damage.

Arik Dragunov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dragunov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
