PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Clearence Clearwater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Orton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Clearence Clearwater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Orton!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ben Hemmingworth and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orton is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Orton gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Orton stalling the fight.
Orton prevents Clearwater from breaking the clinch.
Clearwater is pressed up against the cage. Orton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Clearwater down to the mat. Clearwater avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Clearwater throws a nice head kick!

Clearwater shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Orton actively working from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Orton tries to roll over but Clearwater keeps him under control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Clearwater postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Orton to stand up.

Orton instigates a clinch.
Orton lands a left hand.
Clearwater tries to circle away but Orton has him pinned against the cage.
Clearwater has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Clearwater wants to break free but Orton has control.

Orton is trying to trip Clearwater. He has hold of a leg but Clearwater is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Orton persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Orton's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Clearwater utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Orton engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Orton stands up from Clearwater's guard - Orton perhaps looking for a knockout.
A bone on bone clash there as Orton blocks the leg kick.
Orton is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Orton ducks right into an uppercut from Clearwater.
Orton is looking to land body kicks.

Orton clinches with his opponent.

Orton has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Clearwater uses from the top position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Clearwater preventing the sweep.

Orton seems keen to control Clearwater's posture.
Orton is continuing to stall.
Orton lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Clearwater knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Orton on the ground.
Orton stays in close to Clearwater's body and controls the position.
It looks like Orton might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Orton lands a couple of elbows.
Orton is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Orton slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Orton dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Orton manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Clearwater on his heels. He'll look to pass Clearwater's guard now, I'm sure.
Clearwater looking to hit a scissor sweep but Orton is one step ahead there.
Clearwater is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Orton dives into side control.
Orton taking a breather here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Clearwater wants to get back to his feet but Orton drags him back down.
Orton looks up at the clock and then as Clearwater takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Orton smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Orton has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Orton is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Clearwater has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Orton takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee warns Clearwater that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Orton content just to control the position here.
Clearwater has given up his back.
Orton scores with punches from the back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Orton is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Orton gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Orton gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Orton apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Clearwater gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Orton to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Orton passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Orton controlling the position.

Orton has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Clearwater tries to sprawl but Orton drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Well, if Orton is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Clearwater tries to kick Orton off in order to stand up. Orton Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Orton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Orton fails to pull guard.
Clearwater with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Orton throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Orton takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Orton jumps guard and drags Clearwater to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Clearwater is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Orton has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Clearwater is looking to defend but Orton has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Clearwater! Orton pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Clearwater taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Dan Orton!
