PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Meyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy The Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meyer's entrance music is Genesis - Justice. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Randy The Ripper!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meyer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The Ripper utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The Ripper controls Meyer momentarily but Meyer frees himself.

The Ripper has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Meyer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The Ripper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Meyer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Meyer sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but The Ripper is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Meyer throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

The Ripper throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Meyer sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Meyer tries for a takedown but The Ripper sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Meyer is breathing heavily.
The Ripper misses with a hook. Meyer ducked under it nicely.
The Ripper should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The Ripper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Meyer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Meyer wants to control from the top but The Ripper keeps moving.
Meyer is working The Ripper over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The Ripper throws a looping overhand right but Meyer ducks down to avoid it.
The Ripper throws a series of punches but Meyer moves out of range.

It looks like Randy The Ripper has been cut.
Meyer misses with a looping left.
Meyer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around The Ripper's waist but The Ripper gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Meyer off to one side.
The Ripper swings away with a leg kick that misses.
The Ripper looks to land a right hand but Meyer moved out of range.
Horrible takedown by Meyer or perhaps it was just good defense by The Ripper which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Meyer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Meyer wants to clinch up but The Ripper keeps it at a distance.
Marcus Meyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Meyer shoots in for a takedown but The Ripper shows good takedown defense.

Meyer shoots for a double leg takedown but The Ripper sprawls well. He's pushed Meyer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The Ripper throws out a loose jab but Meyer uses good head movement to avoid it.
The Ripper throws a series of punches but Meyer avoids them all with ease.
Marcus Meyer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Some wild striking there from The Ripper.
Meyer catches The Ripper with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Meyer ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Meyer avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The Ripper misses with an uppercut. Meyer saw that one coming.

The Ripper keeps control of the position for the meantime.

The Ripper is not content to let Meyer control the position.
The Ripper is looking to improve his position.

Meyer wants to take a breather but The Ripper is having none of it.
The Ripper tries to roll over but Meyer keeps him under control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Meyer stalks The Ripper and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into The Ripper's face. The Ripper staggers backwards, shaken.

and The Ripper counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Meyer!

The Ripper has hold of Meyer's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Meyer manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The Ripper is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Meyer is surviving well by controlling The Ripper's body position as best he can.

Randy The Ripper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think The Ripper has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
