PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phillip Hancock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sultan Rajam Islin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Phillip Hancock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sultan Rajam Islin!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hancock gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Islin throwing strikes from guard but Hancock blocks nicely.
Islin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hancock's guard.
Hancock could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Islin is trying to control the action in half guard but Hancock is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Islin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hancock haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Islin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Islin wants to work for an arm triangle but Hancock is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Hancock is looking to control Islin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hancock avoid being mounted?

Islin wants to take a breather but Hancock is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Islin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Islin tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Hancock might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hancock is not content to let Islin control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hancock fails with a takedown attempt.

Hancock tries to sprawl but Islin drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Hancock wants to improve his position but Islin is controlling well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Islin in particular looking to stall.
Islin thows a huge punch but Hancock dodges it nicely.

Islin is keen to just control but Hancock is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Islin has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Hancock works to full guard.
Hancock seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sultan Rajam Islin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Islin feints and as Hancock raises his hands in defense, Islin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Islin seems to be working for a kimura but Hancock defends the submission attempt.

Islin is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hancock wants to control but Islin is keeping busy.

Hancock is staying active underneath Islin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hancock tries to roll over but Islin keeps him under control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hancock misses with a takedown attempt - Islin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Islin tries to counter by closing the distance.
Hancock shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Islin as he jumps to the side.
Islin is looking for the big counter here.

Hancock gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Islin to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Hancock keeping moving, preventing Islin from controlling successfully.
Hancock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Islin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hancock has his hands on Islin's head, controlling the position.
Hancock knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Islin on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Islin stopping the sweep attempt from Hancock.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hancock is trying to control the position but Islin postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hancock.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phillip Hancock. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Islin wants to clinch
and Hancock counters with a two punch combo.

Hancock closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Islin quickly recovers to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sultan Rajam Islin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Hancock shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Islin as he avoids it easily.
A countering left hand to the body from Islin misses.
Islin lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Phillip Hancock has been cut.
Sultan Rajam Islin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Islin wants to clinch but Hancock slips to the side

and Hancock counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Islin keeping moving, preventing Hancock from controlling successfully.
Hancock wants to get up but he can't break Islin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Islin has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Hancock doesn't defend quickly enough and Islin has managed to lock this one up! Can Hancock escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Islin on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Sultan Rajam Islin!
