Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Mackaye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Byron Benjamin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ian Mackaye!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Byron Benjamin!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mackaye fails to land the takedown.
Benjamin jabs at Mackaye's body.
Benjamin dodges the punch combination from Mackaye.
Benjamin let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Mackaye pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Benjamin back to the cage. Mackaye follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Benjamin slaps away a takedown attempt from Mackaye, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Benjamin throws a counter combo.
Mackaye throws a right hand that Benjamin ducks under and follows up with a left that Benjamin also avoids with ease.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The crowd cheers as Benjamin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mackaye doesn't seem phased though.
Mackaye shoots in for a takedown but Benjamin shows good takedown defense.
Benjamin throws out a counter right but Mackaye avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian Mackaye. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Benjamin jabs Mackaye to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Mackaye throws a left and a right that both miss
and Benjamin counters with a nice body shot.
Mackaye is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Benjamin throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Mackaye takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Mackaye will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Benjamin wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Benjamin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mackaye avoiding damage as Benjamin throws knees to the body.
Benjamin makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Nice elbow from Benjamin.


It looks like Ian Mackaye has been cut.
Benjamin scores with a shoulder strike.

Benjamin misses with a hook to the ribs.

Mackaye successfully pulls guard.
Benjamin wants to stand but Mackaye is controlling his posture from full guard.
Benjamin stopping the sweep attempt from Mackaye.

Benjamin is looking to stand up but Mackaye won't let him.
Benjamin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mackaye. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mackaye pulls Benjamin in to control the position.
Benjamin wants to stand but Mackaye has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Benjamin is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mackaye fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Benjamin! But no joy.

Mackaye shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Benjamin wants to stand and escape but Mackaye is having none of it.
Mackaye throws a big elbow that misses.
Mackaye pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Benjamin is keeping the position for now.
Mackaye postures up in Benjamin's guard and throws a big left but Benjamin blocks it.
Benjamin avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Mackaye drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Benjamin dives on top into guard.

Mackaye has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mackaye has a closed guard, preventing Benjamin from standing up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mackaye holds on and takes a little breather.
Benjamin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mackaye looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Benjamin is fending him off so far but Mackaye persists. Nope, Benjamin circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice takedown defense from Benjamin. No joy for Mackaye on that attempt.
As Mackaye backs off Benjamin throws a huge counter combo but Mackaye manages to avoid it all.
Benjamin lands a nice looking body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Byron Benjamin dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ian Mackaye's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Benjamin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Benjamin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ian Mackaye seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Benjamin slaps away a takedown attempt from Mackaye, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Oooooh!!! Benjamin has knocked Mackaye down with a huge combo! Benjamin steps away and waves a wobbly Mackaye back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Mackaye is rocked!
Mackaye backs away from a small jab... but Benjamin lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Mackaye crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Benjamin with a spectacular finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Byron Benjamin!
Byron Benjamin seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
