PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tarmo Rautakallio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor Brazier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rautakallio comes to the cage accompanied by Finlandia Hymni. The crowd seem to be enjoying Brazier's choice of entrance music: Decisions. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tarmo Rautakallio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Conor Brazier!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rautakallio has his takedown stuffed
enabling Brazier to counter with a crisp jab.
Brazier cracks Rautakallio with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Brazier stuffs the takedown.
Brazier lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Rautakallio walks into a straight right hand from Brazier.
Rautakallio fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tarmo Rautakallio. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brazier fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Rautakallio checks it well.
Rautakallio definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rautakallio closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rautakallio tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brazier can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brazier throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brazier is not content to let Rautakallio control the position.
Brazier tries to improve position but can't.
Brazier wants to control but Rautakallio postures up.
Brazier is looking for a sweep.
Rautakallio wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brazier keeps working.
Brazier has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Rautakallio has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Rautakallio looking to control but Brazier is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Brazier is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Rautakallio wants to finish this one by submission but Brazier is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rautakallio.
Brazier is desperately trying to improve his position but Rautakallio has a good base and remains in mount.
Rautakallio wants to take his opponent's back but Brazier doesn't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rautakallio moves to take his opponent's back.
Brazier really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rautakallio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rautakallio gets his hands free as Brazier looks to control.
Brazier breaks Rautakallio's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Rautakallio pulls Brazier in close to his closed guard and prevents Brazier from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brazier trying to control the position from guard on top but Rautakallio is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Brazier is posturing up here but Rautakallio has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Brazier tries to roll out but it's too tight and Brazier has to tap! Slick submission there by Rautakallio!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Tarmo Rautakallio!
