Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Birchall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nykiran Rock!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Birchall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rock sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Birchall somewhat.
Birchall shoots in but Rock avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Birchall definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Birchall looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Birchall is looking to work some ground and pound but Rock has wrist control.
Rock wants to sweep but no luck.
Rock keeping moving, preventing Birchall from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rock escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Birchall gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rock looking for a sweep. Not yet Rock, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rock is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Rock working for a triangle but Birchall defends it easily.
Rock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Birchall with a nice head shot there.
Birchall throwing strikes from guard but Rock blocks nicely.

Rock is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Birchall defends well.
Birchall postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Birchall's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Birchall lands a couple of elbows.
Rock is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Birchall chips away with some ground and pound.
Birchall working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rock's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rock is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Birchall lands a couple of elbows.
Birchall wants to pass the guard but Rock is keeping the position.
Birchall is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rock has momentary wrist control but Birchall slips an elbow through the middle.
Birchall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rock is keeping the position for now.
Rock keeping moving, preventing Birchall from controlling successfully.
Birchall is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Birchall defends it easily.

Birchall avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Birchall working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rock's head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Birchall postures up in Rock's guard and throws a big left but Rock blocks it.
Birchall pushes down on Rock's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Birchall drops an elbow to the side of Rock's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Birchall dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Rock darts in looking for a takedown but Birchall gets double underhooks and turns Rock into the cage.
Rock misses with a body shot.
Paul Birchall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Birchall is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rock sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rock wants to counter with a clinch but Birchall pushes him away.
Birchall shoots for a takedown but Rock saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Birchall darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Birchall lands strikes from half guard.
Rock trying to control but Birchall postures up.
Rock is trying to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rock has hold of Birchall's hands but Birchall slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Birchall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Birchall landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Rock taking some punishment here, with Birchall in his half guard.
Birchall looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Birchall connects with a nice short shot to Rock's temple.


It looks like Nykiran Rock has been cut.

Birchall is working for an americana but Rock has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Birchall was thinking about the submission.

Birchall loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Birchall scoring with some ground and pound.

Rock has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Birchall can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Birchall has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rock is breathing heavily.
Birchall with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Birchall landing with the ground and pound.
Birchall wants to pass the guard but Rock is keeping the position.
Paul Birchall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Birchall stands and throws Rock's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Rock taking a bit of punishment here - Birchall scoring with strikes.
Birchall lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rock down.


That has opened up Nykiran Rock's cut even more.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Nykiran Rock's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
