Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel McReynolds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Samuel McReynolds!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McReynolds moves into the clinch.
McReynolds is stalling here.
McReynolds can't break the clinch.
McReynolds stalling the fight.
Russell keeps the fight in the clinch, despite McReynolds's efforts to push away.

McReynolds jumps into guard, dragging Russell to the mat.

McReynolds is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McReynolds pulls Russell in close to prevent any damage.

McReynolds is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Russell is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but McReynolds is defending well.
Russell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but McReynolds has him pressed against the cage.

McReynolds jumps guard and drags Russell to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now McReynolds is on top in guard.


Russell looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
McReynolds advances position into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McReynolds throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

McReynolds thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McReynolds with the ground and pound but Russell regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Russell won't allow McReynolds to pass to mount.

McReynolds stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
McReynolds misses with a head kick.

McReynolds throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Russell was covering up waiting for the punch and McReynolds finishes the takedown easily into guard.

McReynolds drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Russell dives on top into guard.

Russell postures up.
McReynolds looking to hit a scissor sweep but Russell is one step ahead there.
Russell throwing strikes but missing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now McReynolds is on top in guard.

McReynolds stands and throws Russell's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Russell tries to buck McReynolds off but McReynolds is having none of it.
Russell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McReynolds on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McReynolds is looking to take a break and control but Russell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


McReynolds throws a push kick but Russell slaps the foot to one side.

McReynolds darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
McReynolds content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
McReynolds looks to land a strike but Russell avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McReynolds working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Russell really is a fat lump.

McReynolds controlling from the top position.
McReynolds is continuing to stall.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
McReynolds trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Russell manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McReynolds controlling the position.

McReynolds has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Russell has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Russell is looking to take this one to the mat.
Russell is looking for a takedown up against the cage. McReynolds gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
A right hook to the body lands for McReynolds.
Russell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by McReynolds after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fred Russell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McReynolds jumps guard.

McReynolds pushes Russell off and gets back to his feet.

Russell instigates a clinch.

McReynolds successfully pulls guard.
McReynolds looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

McReynolds looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Russell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
McReynolds seems keen to control Russell's posture.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now McReynolds is on top in guard.

McReynolds postures up in Russell's guard and throws a big left but Russell blocks it.
McReynolds controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

McReynolds postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Russell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McReynolds, into his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samuel McReynolds showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

It looks like Fred Russell has been cut.

McReynolds fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Russell, pushing him back against the cage.
McReynolds misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Russell.

Russell is looking to break free of the clinch but McReynolds has double underhooks.

McReynolds has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McReynolds works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

McReynolds decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Russell, up you get!
Russell throws a right and a left that both miss.
Russell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Russell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

McReynolds gets to his feet - Russell follows without any prompting.

McReynolds gets a takedown into half guard.

McReynolds perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

McReynolds postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Russell to stand up.
Samuel McReynolds seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McReynolds catches Russell with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

McReynolds shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Russell is trying to control the position but McReynolds postures up.
McReynolds controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Russell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McReynolds passes Russell's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for McReynolds. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
McReynolds not doing much here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McReynolds prevents Russell from improving his position.
McReynolds content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McReynolds clinches up with Russell and pushes him back against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Samuel McReynolds comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McReynolds has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
