PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roger Cantor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harald Hildetand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hildetand is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Amon Amarth - Twillight of the Thunder God. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Harald Hildetand enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roger Cantor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harald Hildetand!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hildetand scores with a sloppy right hand. Cantor should have avoided that one.
Cantor gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hildetand.
A chopping leg kick lands by Cantor.
Hildetand keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Hildetand swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cantor throws a chopping leg kick but Hildetand manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Cantor fails with a takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hildetand looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hildetand fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cantor throws a body shot but no joy.
Hildetand avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Cantor changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hildetand looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hildetand tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cantor wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Hildetand's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hildetand has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cantor is working away from the top position though.
Cantor is pressing down on Hildetand's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hildetand is holding on for now.
Still in half guard, Cantor seems content to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hildetand misses with a double jab.
Hildetand fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cantor looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cantor.

A looping hook to the body misses from Hildetand. Cantor does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cantor moves forwards but Hildetand connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Cantor lands a head shot.
Hildetand chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cantor can pounce on him.

This has been an exciting period of action!
No joy there for Hildetand, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cantor looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Cantor throws a low kick but Hildetand moves out of range easily.
Hildetand misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cantor.
Cantor scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Hildetand slips under a jab.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hildetand enables Cantor to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hildetand manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Cantor connects with a couple of short punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roger Cantor will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hildetand has his foot on Cantor's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cantor works his way back into a safe position though.

Cantor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hildetand has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cantor has managed to get both his arms back between Hildetand's legs - danger averted.

Cantor tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hildetand knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hildetand is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cantor pulls his head out easily.
Cantor is looking to take a break and control but Hildetand is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hildetand misses with a few strikes there.
Cantor misses with a looping left.

Cantor dives in and grabs Hildetand's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hildetand pushes down on Cantor's head and hops out.

Horrible takedown attempt by Cantor or perhaps it was just good defense by Hildetand, which made it look bad.

It looked like Cantor wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Cantor throws a low kick but Hildetand avoids it.
Hildetand has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Hildetand throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Hildetand stalks Cantor and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cantor's face. Cantor staggers backwards, shaken.

Hildetand has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cantor is working away from the top position though.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Cantor is trying to control. Hildetand wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The crowd cheers as Hildetand lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cantor doesn't seem phased though.

and Hildetand makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Cantor throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hildetand was covering up waiting for the punch and Cantor finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Hildetand working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cantor doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cantor manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

I think Hildetand has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
