PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kurko Tyrma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Belcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jake Belcher told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Kurko Tyrma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Belcher!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Belcher closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Tyrma is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Bad Pluto! (18 Elite Coach) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Tyrma parries the strikes from Belcher easily there. Belcher is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Tyrma to escape.

Tyrma takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Belcher is trying to ground and pound but Tyrma uses the momentary lack of control by Belcher to regain half guard.

Tyrma is staying active underneath Belcher, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Tyrma avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Belcher.
Belcher has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Belcher wants to control but Tyrma is keeping him busy.

Belcher is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tyrma is just riding it out for now. Belcher eventually gives up the hold.

Belcher is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tyrma moves into full guard.

Belcher is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belcher missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Belcher accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Belcher wants to pass the guard but Tyrma is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Belcher tries for a takedown but Tyrma sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Belcher changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tyrma tries to avoid it but Belcher manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tyrma to the ground. Tyrma escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A counter left hand to the body from Tyrma misses its target.

Belcher closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Belcher wants to free his trapped foot but Tyrma is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Belcher is taking a breather. Tyrma says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Belcher is looking for a triangle but Tyrma pushes his legs off easily.

Belcher had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tyrma defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Belcher takes one to the chin there.
Belcher closes the distance but Tyrma moves to the side
and Tyrma connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tyrma as he avoids it easily.

Tyrma was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Tyrma jabs Belcher right on the nose. Belcher blinks but takes it well.

Kurko Tyrma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Belcher.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Belcher connects with a nice short shot to Tyrma's temple.

Belcher darts in looking for a takedown but Tyrma gets double underhooks and turns Belcher into the cage.
Horrible takedown attempt by Belcher or perhaps it was just good defense by Tyrma, which made it look bad.
Belcher shoots in looking for a takedown but Tyrma manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Belcher's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The crowd cheers as Tyrma lands an impressive looking overhand right. Belcher doesn't seem phased though.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tyrma but Tyrma pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The fighters circle momentarily. Tyrma darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Belcher misses with a two punch combination.
A little feinted left hand from Tyrma on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Belcher with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Tyrma to score with a decent uppercut.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown but Tyrma shows good takedown defense.
Kurko Tyrma is winning the standup battle so far.
A shot to the body from Belcher misses

and Tyrma counters with a nice right hand that sends Belcher toppling to the canvas! Belcher scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Tyrma finish him?!


Belcher is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown but Tyrma shows good takedown defense.
Belcher shoots in and drives through. Tyrma sprawls well.
It looked like Tyrma was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Belcher.
Belcher is breathing heavily.

Tyrma sends Belcher crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Tyrma is motioning to the referee to let Belcher up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Belcher is still on wobbly legs! Can Tyrma finish him?

Tyrma throws a pinpoint strike between Belcher's hands that connects right on the jaw and sends Belcher crashing to the floor! He's out before he even hits the mat and Tyrma scores a great knockout victory!

Our winner, Kurko Tyrma, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
