PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dave Kopp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Peter James was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Kopp!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter James!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kopp avoids the head kick by James.
James misses the shot to the body.

Kopp shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
James looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kopp scoring with strikes to the body and head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kopp looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Kopp winds up and cracks James with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kopp landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Kopp working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
James has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Kopp thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

James is trying to get back to full guard.
Kopp looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks James with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kopp takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
James has hold of Kopp's hands but Kopp slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kopp is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Kopp works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kopp lands a nice shot to the head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kopp is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. James can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

James is rocked!

The referee warns James that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
James is still in real trouble! Can Kopp finish him?

James seems to have recovered his senses.
James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kopp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kopp lands with some vicious ground and pound - can James hang on?
James is bucking up trying to escape but Kopp cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kopp pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Kopp loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have James scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Kopp land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Kopp stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dave Kopp!
Dave Kopp retains his featherweight title!
After winning the bout, Dave Kopp thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
